Looking forward to the next two 3d productions from the "Dollar Bills", "Sangaree" and "Jivaro"!!!!
The only two musicals I ever watched and appreciated beginning to end up to now have been:
Sound of Music
White Christmas

Now I can add Kiss Me Kate to that list!

I actually felt that the musical parts were not too overwhelming and they felt natural within the context of the storyline

Also, "Kate" is an adaptation (fairly faithful-- first movie scene not in original) of a Broadway stage production whereas "Redheads" is a typical Hollywood-spawned "original" movie musical typical of the late 40s to mid 50s. Different styles, etc.

Most exciting "Kate" moment for me--- the sizzling duet ("From this Moment On") between dancers Carol Haney (genius who died way too young) and Bob Fosse (genius who revolutionized Broadway choreography). Watch the extras where Ann Miller tells of coming on the two of them "trying some things." She told the choreographer, "You had better see this!" They were turned loose to do their thing in the film, thus introducing the Fosse Style which triumphed on B'way in such landmarks as "Damn Yankees," "The Pajama Game," "Sweet Charity" and the current perennial, "Chicago," the revival of which is still on B'way decades after opening.

Just added: I just noticed on IMDB that today (June 23) would have been the great Bob Fosse's 90th birthday!

Oh, yes... the 3-D in "Kate" is as exciting on the blu-ray disc as it was for this 10-yr-old in the theatre in the early 1950s!
And I, too, can't wait for "Jivaro" and, particularly, "Sangaree" ) a favorite of mine upon release! (Ten year olds have SUCH great taste!! LOL)

Hi ilovenola,

Thanks so much for the tribute to the great Carol Haney whom I'm afraid to so many, has faded from the annals of great dancers and overall tremendous talents. She is also captured in some other films including The Pajama Game, reprising the Broadway Tony award role of Gladys that launched her into national prominence. She was a diabetic but also suffered from alcoholism and being a non stop workaholic, probably all contributing to her passing at the age of 39.

Haney is also featured briefly in Gene Kelly's beautiful, underrated 3-act "ballet" film "Invitation to the Dance," an unusual cinematic experiment by Kelly that didn't do much at the box office. It's available on a MOD from, I believe, Warner Archive and well worth a look for Kelly fans.
Of course, I'd love a "legit" restoration but I doubt that's in the works.
For those interestedd, here's an IMDB link:

Hi ilovenola,

Have that one too. It's aired often on TCM and I dubbed a copy. Very underappreciated!

So unfortunately it looks like this 3D blu-ray has quietly gone out of print... Which is quite a shame seeing that I was finally ready to purchase it! Every reputable retailer I can think of (besides ebay... I'm not interested in a bidding war) shows it as being out of stock.

I know this is a shot in the dark, but has anyone heard any news regarding this title? (Fingers crossed for a re-release, as unlikely as that is...)

Good catch. Thanks. I see it's no longer on Amazon and eBay has a listing for $49.95, with bidding still open.

Looks like I'll be holding on to my copy to see how high the bidding goes.

More to the point, might this somehow portend a positive development relative to WB's full catalog of classic 3D titles....?

Would it make more sense to purchase this over the single release?

One can only hope for a positive outcome, especially for fans of the format like myself. But honesty, it seems pretty unlikely with the current state of 3D home theater in the U.S.. Less and less titles are being released, with pretty much no 3D TVs currently being manufactured. Should have jumped at purchasing this title while I had the chance. Lesson learned.

Fantastic! I totally missed that collection! Thanks so much for the suggestion! Even though I already own Singin' In The Rain it's probably worth the double dip to get the 3D blu-ray before it's completely gone. Thanks again!
