Okay.

The overall plot of the movie looks okay, if far out there. But from what I've heard about the books and know about the original movie (not the Eddie Murphy ones), the series has always been relatively out there.

Some of the animals are iffy, but I am interested in seeing how it goes.

In the book do the animals speak like humans ? They should just have the animals speak like animals it makes the movie seem more real.

The trailer they showed during football yesterday looked atrocious.

Gaghan gives me some hope, but the January release date isn't promising.

I'm game, but something about RDJ and his accent/voice bothers me.

Same here. I never brought into RDJ's British accent. It was only convincing in Chaplin, but only because it was so subtle.

Don't get me wrong, RDJ's British accent isn't bad. It's the same problem that Brits have when they do an American accent. They come off as less expressive. There is no way you can still talk like that in an actual conversation with friends while having beers.

Alleged ‘Dolittle’ Crewmember Pens Epic Rant About Troubled Production & “Batsh*t Director” Stephen Gaghan

Quote:
“It was deep in production hell last year, they started filming scenes before they had even planned where the animated animals would be standing, it was nuts,” wrote the disgruntled crewmember (syntax and spelling errors kept intact). “And then the batshit director went and got fired, which was a little too late after his insane outbursts and subsequent banning from stepping foot into both the lead concept department AND the lead Pre-visual animation department.”

The rant continued, “Then he demanded that the previsual department be fired because ‘We can figure it out on the day”, yeah Stephan, you can figure out where 5+ animated characters and Robert.D.Jr are standing when you have 30 individual camera shots to film on a monday morning, you ****ing moron.”

When it was mentioned about how Liebesman and McKay were brought on to save the film, after Universal was displeased with test screenings, the crewmember admitted that they weren’t there for the reshoots, but said, “…if it’s even remotely watchable then the new guys deserve some ****in’ medals haha.”

Adding to the laundry list of issues brought up by this crewmember is the fact that Gaghan “was literally insane, almost put a fist through a new 8k tv because the talking Goose wasn’t on screen while it was talking in one shot, even though he asked the week before for us to move the goose out of the shot…”

If that's all true, I have a hard time seeing Gaghan getting another high-profile gig anytime soon. It's not like he's been the most prolific director, anyway.

I quite liked Syriana, but from everything he’s done, he clearly is not a director experienced with digital effects, so it’s odd to put him in charge of an expensive effects driven movie like this.

Of course no idea how true this is, but there is no question that this was a troubled production. I’ve worked in digital animation and effects for most of my career. Directors who don’t know the process and are too up themselves bother learn about CGI are not uncommon and guarantee endless, unnecessary overtime for the crew. So I get how pissed that guy is if this is true.
