Yeah, when it's all said and done the Switch is going to be just like the 3DS. Very good 1st party games, surrounded by an ocean of indie shovelware.

Probably because they are primarily an Asian market leader like Tencent Games, focused on online games for the Asian market rather than the West.

Diablo 3 “leaked” again. Probably out before year end.

https://arstechnica.com/gaming/2018/...l-coming-2018/

Quote:
Forbes published an article on Wednesday confirming that the developer's popular slash-and-loot series would arrive on Nintendo Switch by the end of 2018 in the form of an "Eternal Collection." The outlet quickly removed the article from its site, but its copious details (screengrabbed by Reddit members) appear legitimate, and publications like Kotaku confirmed that Forbes' article ran one day before Blizzard's official unveil scheduled for Thursday of this week.

As you might imagine from a name like "Eternal Collection," this version of Diablo III will include all of the 2012 game's subsequent paid expansions, including Reaper of Souls and Rise of the Necromancer, along with all of the game's free updates and patches up to this point. It will launch at an MSRP of $59.99.

The Switch version will include four-player local-multiplayer support, and it doesn't care if players share one console or connect via local-wireless features. This will come in addition to full online-multiplayer support, which will require a paid Nintendo Online subscription. The article's phrasing appears to imply that Diablo III: Eternal Collection will launch on Switch no earlier than Nintendo's "late September" window for its paid-service launch.

Switch players can look forward to a few in-game items for their version of the game, which all have Legend of Zelda series trappings: a "Legend of Ganondorf" cosmetic armor set, a Triforce-design portrait frame, "Echoes of the Mask" cosmetic wings, and a Cucco as an in-game pet. (We look forward to finding out whether this chicken can be slashed by players and thus get them swarmed by a violent Cucco horde.) Forbes' article did not clarify whether these items will immediately unlock when Switch players start a new quest or if they'll have to be earned via quests or other activities.

Combing through the system level firmware suggest Nintendo has at least entertained the idea of VR via the Switch.

https://arstechnica.com/gaming/2018/...itch-firmware/

Quote:
Hackers have uncovered and tested a screen-splitting "VR Mode" that has been buried in the Switch's system-level firmware for over a year. The discovery suggests that Nintendo at least toyed with the idea that the tablet system could serve as a stereoscopic display for a virtual reality headset.
Quote:
Switch hackers first discovered and documented references to a "VrMode" in the Switch OS' Applet Manager services back in December, when analyzing the June 2017 release of version 3.0.0 of the system's firmware. But the community doesn't seem to have done much testing of the internal functions "IsVrModeEnabled" and "SetVrModeEnabled" at the time.
Quote:
That changed shortly after Switch modder OatmealDome publicly noted one of the VR functions earlier this month, rhetorically asking "has anyone actually tried calling it?" Fellow hacker random0666 responded with a short Twitter video (and an even shorter follow-up) showing the results of an extremely simple homebrew testing app that activates the system's VrMode functions.
Quote:
As you can see in those video links, using those functions to enable the Switch's VR mode splits the screen vertically into two identical half-sized images, in much the way other VR displays split an LCD screen to create a stereoscopic 3D effect. System-level UI elements appear on both side of the screen when the mode is enabled, and the French text shown in the test can be roughly translated to "Please move the console away from your face and click the close button."

The location of the functions in the Switch firmware suggest they're part of Nintendo's own Switch code, and not generic functions included in other Nvidia Tegra-based hardware.
Quote:
Despite the discovery of this VrMode code (and previous hacked-together proof-of-concept tests from individual Switch owners), it's hard to imagine the Switch's large form-factor, 720p resolution screen, and relatively low-end gyroscope would lead to a very robust VR experience. That said, some industry watchers continue to speculate on a potential PS4 Pro/Xbox One X-style mid-generation hardware update for the Switch, which could provide the extra horsepower needed to enable passable virtual reality on the platform (Nintendo has not even hinted at any such plans, though).

Not surprising what with the patents that were floating about from 2016.

Rendered concept

Labo like cardboard, cheap and easy to build. Don't know how well it would sit on your face though. Nintendo have always toyed with gimmicks like the 3D Luigis Mansion for the Gamecube 3D Screen that was eventually dropped.

Well, Marcus Sellers just dropped a bomb shell on Twitter. If you believe it of course.

Quote:
Nintendo will be releasing an improved version of the Nintendo Switch early 2019. This console will have 8GB of ram, 128GB of internal storage and dynamic scaling up to 4K. Some third party games will only release on this version. All Nintendo produced games will release on both.
Quote:
Streaming will become available with this version (Twitch). A prime example of a game being Switch "pro" only is Resident Evil 2.
Quote:
The Switch is getting a price drop this holiday and is also getting some good value bundles.

Regarding the third quote, it is getting a "good value" bundle. The Switch is being bundled with both Mario Tennis Aces and 1-2-Switch But is priced only for Mario Tennis (meaning you’re getting 1-2-Switch for free). Its around $360.

Awful. His track record is awful.

He makes stuff up, deletes it and then claims he never said it.

I own a PS4, I have no need for a Switch “Pro”. I highly doubt all the parents out there who know dilly about tech will be running out to replace the Switch they just bought within the last year.

At least Bethesda is stepping up. I'll continue to buy all their games on the Switch to support 3rd party sales. I waited for Wolfenstein to hit the switch before picking it up.

Before the Switch, I had no idea how enjoyable it would be to take your game console into the bathroom with you. I bought the Street Fighter 30th Anniversary Collection for Switch, despite knowing that if I had pre-ordered it on my PS4 I would have also gotten Street Fighter IV. The ability to play on the toilet trumped the SF4 offer.

Best Buy shipped out my copy of Shenmue on PS4 recently, but if it was getting a Switch release, I would have gotten it there instead. You just simply can’t beat the freedom of playing a game while pinching a loaf.

As for upgrading to a "Pro" Switch, no way. Not unless it was for some super duper Zelda game that didn’t run on the standard.
