Tarantino is my favorite director. I love all of his movies. I can't wait for this.

Dammit, I was hoping QT would go through with that rumored sci-fi project.

Not sure what to think about this premise. Sounds more fitting for Rob Zombie imo.

I think I make no secret that I love Tarantino films, but this sounds a tad too uncomfortable and narcissistic to be good viewing. Studios are backing it though, stars have been approached, so perhaps it's a big turn in the road for Tarantino, and it's going to be rewarding and challenging in different ways.

EDIT: This thread got weird.

Absolutely. Under the humor and violence in Django Unchained there was a palpable and unmistakable disgust and outrage over the institution of slavery...a whole hell of a lot more than in most Hollywood movies.

Seriously though, regarding this movie. The actors being rumoured are fine, BUT as soon as I read the focus on the movie. I've realised I've already "Seen it". Not because I've just returned from the future but because I'm PRETTY sure it' focusing on the same events as another movie I've watched recently enough about this. Let me go find the title.

UPDATE

http://m.imdb.com/title/tt4670016/?ref_=m_nm_knf_act_t5

That's the movie. The characters are different, but the time period and what plays out seems to be the exact same way as what this QT movie seems to be targeting sans the Police investigation angle. Actually quote a decent movie if you have some time spare and like that genre.

Brave of Tarantino to tackle the subject. I trust his judgement and can see him hitting the right tones.

Word is that Tarantino met with Leonardo DiCaprio and Am Pacino recently, hopefully they're involved in the film.

I have no idea how Tarantino of all people will find the right tone for this. The more I think about it, the more excited I am. I don't wanna see another spaghetti western homage. Jackie Brown is his second to best film, and It's because it stands out so much in his filmography for being such a nuanced character study.*

I think Tarantino could really tap back into that, considering the film is based off true events. I could still see him doing some of his stylistic flourishes (seeing that split-screen technique here would be really cool), while still managing to deliver something a little more serious.

Huge Tarantino fan, but I just have no interest in this subject matter. Sounds really disturbing and depressing, if you ask me (made even worse cause it's a true story). Can't see sitting thru something like this, even with the man himself at the helm.

Seems like a high risk venture. Could turn out really good - nor not. Don't see much in between.

Seriously??

If he steps one way or the other too far out of line with THIS STORY - a tragedy involving one of Hollywood's own, his career could be over before he reaches the ten movie cap..

That being said, I dig his $hit...

A film set in the 70's... shot on film....by the future recognized greatest writer/director of all time?

I'm in all the way

Wonder if Tarnatino will go a more serious route with this, or is this just going to be a Grindhouse version of a Mason Family movie?

I remember back in March either ABC or maybe NBC aired a doc on the Manson family and let me tell ya...the comments online were not good. I couldn't believe it. People were flipping out saying "this is disgusting" "how dare you give this man airtime". I just thought where the hell have they been the last 40 something years? Everyone knows him and at least the basics of this story. It was ridiculous.

With that...I thoroughly enjoyed Aquarius with David duchovny and Gethin Anthony as Manson was amazing.

I'm looking forward to this film if it pans out. I hope they get the cast right.

Neither are the Nazis, torture, drug dealing, murder, assassin, slavery etc. He does utilize humor in the dialogue but his plots are rarely funny
