It should have been a Star Wars film. I have a feeling I would be quite happy to see a Porg beaten to death with a baseball bat.

About time Star Trek is getting a serious dose of evolution.

Yeah I don't see him actually directing this. I also don't see him stopping at 10 movies like he says he will. So who knows what'll happen. It's definitely exciting to think about QT doing Star Trek.

I know he's fan of Star Trek, so probably just being involved as a writer and/or producer. Seriously doubt he'd end up directing it.

Will they get a new cast in, or continue with the current crew?

Star Trek will never be R-Rated, there's no reason for it to be.

Yeah, even if they kept this a zillion miles away from any of the franchise characters, ships and locations it would still be a pretty huge departure for the brand.

I dunno, a darker, grittier movie set somewhere in the ST multiverse isn't entirely implausible but definitely color me skeptical.

While I've enjoyed Discovery, I don't like this idea of pushing Trek away from a family audience. Most of us here started watching ST as kids and grew into enjoying the more grown up concepts explored in the show. If anything, a Trek movie should move closer to the PG origins, not to the hardcore R crowd.

I do get that the studio can push for a lower budget if it's R, but just don't make it an action movie and do a lower-budget PG sci-fi drama exploration adventure ST film at $75m budget.

This news is just so strange to me.

I can't think of anything that needs to be in Star Trek film that would make it be rated R. I guess we will just have to wait and see. I am not a Tarantino fan but it can't be any worse than the last three films.

R-rating has me a little more interested. Still doubt QT directs it though. The idea of the Kelvin timeline crew doing something R-rated is all kinds of enticing though.

2009 and Into Darkness were both a blast to watch, the third Kelvin film was trash though.

Yeah, sorry Tarantino, but I ain’t buying it, the fact he isn’t writing it is a big calling card...

Possibly inspired by the success of Discovery. (even in Hiatus the show is generating healthy viewership.)I like DSC very much, but I must say I prefer that the films didn't go R what so ever. But I understand that this is a decision that could re-invigourate interest from a flagging ship (oops no pun there).

Its been a tradition for 26 years that I'd attend a Trek movie with me lovely Ma, we'd somehow find a way to connect up and watch the film, if this is to cater for violence, I may not be able to keep that tradition going, simply she has never had a taste for violence, She like me really liked Into Darkness, but does struggle with the leg breaking and the skull crushing ;-). Keep it G to PG!!
