Okay, what kinda chairs are Badger and Skinny Pete sitting in? They look almost like Enterprise captain chairs

Anyway,

I've watched the film three times total since it hit early Friday morning. My initial review is still how I feel about the film. It's surprisingly predictable by 'Breaking Bad' standards, but that doesn't mean it's bad or even underwhelming. Just a little surprising considering the unpredictable nature of this world Gilligan has created. Granted, you get two hours of closure for one character. Not something you can branch out for 10-hours of storytelling--and really, would people really want that, when the point of this film was just to give the character of Jesse Pinkman some closure? I think the film did its job well.

Also, it still had moments of profundity:

[Show spoiler]Despite the film's simplicity, and straightforward pacing, the juxtaposition of Jesse driving at the end of the film, with that sense of peace and even happiness within him, compared to the opening of him screaming deliriously as he drives away from Jack's compound, is rather sobering and melancholic. It provides the true sense of closure I think people wanted for the character. And, as a fan of the Breaking Bad world, brings feelings of bittersweet memories, as it was both fun to revisit with this character, and you're happy to see him get the ending you wanted for him--but you also know it will be the last time we truly see this character again.

Also, the film is so beautifully shot, and Dave Porter's music
[Show spoiler]during the flashback with Jane at the end
is pretty damn good. There's still plenty to like from this film.

Watching this tonight. I'm glad I binge watched the whole show so I'll probably understand what the movie offers.

Though I'm curious if there's any nods to the other Breaking Bad spin-off show I love, called Better Call Saul?

Curious when the next season of that is coming out as well.

so the criticisms of Todd are based on his appearance?...I honestly didn't care that he was a bit heavier because outside of Breaking Bad the guy has been much heavier in almost all his post-BB roles...so in my mind I actually thought Todd was actually heavy in BB as well

This was more like a bonus feature that was stretched into a feature length film.

Its not bad but not essential to the story line either.

S5 should be coming soon. If I recall, filming wrapped.

There are a very couple minor BCS links in the movie, but nothing that jumps out at you.

Season 5 premieres in February.

I realize now, if they are captains chairs then it's a call back to that episode where they were talking about the best Star Trek

Saw this tonight at 7:30, I don’t believe I had ever seen a full episode of the series before and don’t think this does as good a job at introducing newcomers as Downton Abbey’s does. But I knew the basic premise already and read a couple online recaps of the series and the Jesse Pinkman character and was able to follow pretty much everything.

Not sure the story really needed to be told and some of the flashbacks felt a bit much, but the suspense scenes were exciting as well as had humor to release tension at the right moments, and I enjoyed it enough. Audience applause from from a packed screening when it began and at at two moments
[Show spoiler]Jesse winning the shootout, and the Bryan Cranston cameo
but weirdly none at the end, though did hear mostly positive comments leaving.

This is what jumped out to me from the very first shot... I was blown away. I rarely ever stream anything, not really my thing. In fact I renewed my 4K Netflix plan today just to watch this. But holy crap was it stunning to watch. Best looking stream I've ever seen.

Mainly shot on the Alexa 65, and had a 4K-DI.

But yeah, in terms of sharpness and an immense sense of detail, this and ‘Triple Frontier’ (which was also shot on the 65) are the best video presentations Netflix has to offer.

I was missing the warm tones of 35mm from the show. There was definitely some nice camera work as we'd expect. I don't know how people went so long without watching such an amazing show then have interest in a film that doesn't stand alone without having watched it

It's admittedly nice to see these characters again, but I really did not enjoy this. Maybe it wasn't meant to be "enjoyable," and I can understand that, but it felt pointless, too. A far cry from the quality of BB and BCS. Aaron Paul is very good, though.

This was a surprisingly good movie!

It was good to see the characters again and get some closure from the ending of Breaking Bad. The most off-putting thing was Jesse Plemons. While it was great he came back, he is the constant reminder that El Camino is definitely made in 2019, mostly due to his weight which he has gained since the original show. Nothing against him in any way, but when you're
[Show spoiler]flashing back to Breaking Bad where he had less weight, but he's now got more weight
, it breaks the illusion of it continuing directly after Breaking Bad time-wise.

All in all it was good! 4/5.

Looking forward to the next season of Better Call Saul now.

Watching it again, anyone else think when Jesse is talking to "The Guy" he really does regret not getting into his van the first time. I think he does hint at that in El Camino when they meet again. His life would be easier I think, most everyone would have stayed alive

Well yeah, avoiding a year of captivity and torture would probably be his preferred route
