20th Century Fox X-Men: Dark Phoenix (2019) No 3D Blu-ray

Moderator note:
Though X-Men: Dark Phoenix did play theatrically in 3D, Fox have opted to insult 3D fans by only releasing the film for purchase in a variety of 2D formats, so please note that no 3D Blu-ray is available anywhere in the world.

First trailer:

Written and directed by Simon Kinberg. Unfortunately, without Bryan Singer at the helm this one probably won’t be Native 3D (unlike DOFP and Apocalypse).

At least it’s confirmed for 3D I suppose (at the end of the trailer).

To be honest, I'll be surprised if Singer shoots in native 3D again. He never sounds too excited about the format.

Kind of like the lead. I’m not sure I want to see her try and carry a movie.

I dont like Sophie Turner. I dont get why people think shes a good actress.

This looks to be on par with Apocalypse. Very forgettable. The old Xmen cast was far better . First class was really good, but I miss the old cast and these new kids just suck.

The X-Men reboot films in my opinion, need a lot more action to keep things more exciting to balance out all of the drama and dialog, since it's based on comic book characters with action abilities.

The Dark Phoenix story about Jean Grey losing control is familiar. I hope Magneto/Fassbender has a big role again as he's one of the cooler X-Men characters IMO with the ability to telekinetically move metal, including his metal based suit to fly.

Without former director Singer attached to the film (his career seems to be over), maybe this new X-Men movie will be more exiting (though this new trailer doesn't reveal much).
Along with the 3D too. It's nice some were filmed in 3D in the past, but the timid 3D approach Singer allowed while filming in 3D didn't make the 3D too exciting either most times, with medium layered 3D. Good, but it could've been great if it was mostly strong 3D.

Hoping for a Marvel-strength 3D conversion as with recent Marvel films.

I believe Singer was an advocate of native 3D having shot JACK THE GIANT KILLER & the last two X-MEN movies in the format.

Odds on this getting a 3D blu ray, slim? This movie seems like it's been pushed back and delayed many times.

June 7, 2019 in 3D theaters. It looks interesting. I wonder if it'll be faster paced than the prior films. If it was more like Logan, that would be refreshing IMO. That movie kicked ass.

For a blu ray 3D, this being from Fox, hopefully they'll offer the 3D license to foreign distributors of blu ray 3D films.

By the time a home release comes, won't the Disney/ Fox deal have gone through? We'll have to see what happens I guess. I don't think this movie looks good at all but i'll buy a 3D blu ray day one for the action and 3D.

It will probably be theatrically released by Disney even as it seems that deal may close as early as March 8th.

No big deal, but I remember X-Men 3 had a story where Jean Gray nearly
[Show spoiler]destroyed everyone
too, from her powers being too much. Are they telling a similar story here again? Where no one can stop her and she's the most powerful X-Woman alive? If so, I'm surprised, as I was hoping for a much different plot.

yes. both x-men 3 and the new film touch on the "Dark Phoenix" storyline. I'm sure there will be plenty of differences between the 2 films though....

Okay, thanks Rui. Interesting they're telling that story again when there is so much new content to cover.

I see Simon Kinberg is the writer and director with some new ideas to hopefully bring to the film series. He said he was inspired by Logan's costume designs, but hopefully also inspired by the style of storytelling and action in that film too. That would be a nice change of pace to the X-Men films, which tend to be slower paced in general, with the exceptions of Wolverine Origins and Logan being my two favorite X-Men related films.

The 3D looks like it could be medium layered based on the trailer.

I thought young phoenix was the weakest link in the last X-men story. Probably skipping this one.

So I'm guessing there won't be a Wolverine for the first time in an X-Men movie? That stinks if that's the case. Maybe they'll introduce a powerful character that is just as strong. But it'll be strange retelling this story without a Wolverine in it. The trailers give no sign of him appearing at all. I don't know how they're going to do it, since Wolverine was romantically linked to Jean Grey. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jean_Grey

If there are no other 3D movies playing during this release, then I'll considering checking it out, though my interest in the familiar story and the same writer have me concerned that it will be very similar to the prior films in style, slower pacing and tone. I like the X-Men movies, but they need more excitement IMO. Magneto will hopefully have a big role in this film, as he is one of the coolest X-Men characters with his kick ass abilities to lift metal.
