If I want to show people what my system can do or test it out after I get something new, I never put in a movie. I always put in a CD. Although they aren't mixed in surround sound, there are a lot of songs that sound awesome.

on my previous setup always used the bluray for star trek and star trek into darkness. We have recently relocated and doing renovations and should have new theatre room setup in the next week or so. Moving to much better equipment and finally jumping into 4k / HDR and cant wait to watch both as first movies on new setup.

Tomorrow Never Dies in any incarnation but particularly the dts LD.
Ronin if I ever tweak something.
Others would include: Phantom Menace LD theatrical EX Dolby ac3, Flash Gordon to check Dolby Stereo, Spartacus to show off full front stage dialog panning and many more.

A great check for 7.1 setups is the opening of Jack Reacher with the sniper scope perspective shots mixing the sniper’s breath directly behind you.

For deep LFE bass that goes down really low Master and Commander dvd and Days of Future Past.

Although I'm not a huge fan of the movie, the first 7 minutes of Fury Road will test every aspect of your system.

Visceral bass (transducers), Low end crunch (subwoofers), overhead panning (ATMOS height channels), voices placed in distinct places within your room (ATMOS sound bubble), score (dynamic range)...It's an araul assault!

I used Saving Private Ryan (4K) the D-Day scene to test out my Sony Dolby Atmos receiver. The ocean waves and bullets whizzing by sounds realistic. I also used Call Of Duty Modern Warfare Remaster PS4.

It starts off in B&W which gives you an opportunity to test your color temp and color saturation. Should be pure B&W - no tints. Also tests contrast - can you see all the detail in the shadows? How are the blacks doing? Are they crushed or are they normal?

If your TV isn't set up to do B&W correctly, it won't do color correctly either.
