While I'm sure that mp3dom's Children Who Chase Lost Voices is a little better, we have to remember that Sentai's re-release is cheap as chips and a clone of the Japanese release.

^^^
You sure about that? It isn’t a 1:1 clone, but it nearly is one in terms of video quality.

How's the quality on the cowboy Bebop movie? Is it the best version available?

Yes, I have it and can confirm that it's the best release currently available. It has the best picture quality, the audio is lossless and English subtitles and dub are also included. However, the extras don't have English subtitles.

Comparison with Image BD (same video as Manga UK/Umbrella AU BD) (source Image BD caps: caps-a-holic.com)
Comparison with Funimation BD 1 | 2 (source Funimation BD caps: Sensuifu)

The Japanese release suffers from windowboxing.

"However, the extras don't have English subtitles"?
Wasn't it announced to include these and they are only missing on packaging?

I don't think they ever announced whether the extras were subtitled or not.

Most of the extras are "english-friendly" anyway. The interviews (the same available in other editions, since they all comes from Sony) have english texts burned-in, and the storyboard specials have the english dub.

I stand corrected then.

I rarely check the extras these days.

For those curious, the Dynit release of Mirai is a 1:1 clone of the Japanese video encode. (Which itself isn't perfect being "full of compression artifacts," according to a user who PM'd me said screencaps.)

Disclaimer: I've never seen this movie or even a screen from it until now.

I see things in those screens that are most likely compression artifacts, like the weird banding on the back of the guy's jacket in screenshot #5.

I see other things that I can't figure out if they're artifacts or more likely just how the movie is intended to look, like how there's a weird glow around the guy on the motorcycle in that same shot, and how in the last shot the kid looks pasted on the background because there's no shading and the lighting doesn't seem consistent.

This movie seems to have a weird art design that I don't really like. Back to that shot of the guy on the bike, we have a painted background complete with motion blur and chromatic aberration (ugh), a sort of cel-shaded pseudo-realistic motorcycle, and a guy and kid that look completely flat because there is little to no shading at all on them, and the linework on them looks rather crude as well. I have no idea what's going on in shots 2-4 but it's not attractive to me. Those remind me of pictures I've seen from Summer Wars which also looked ugly to me so my problem I guess.

I'm flip flopping on buying the Dynit release of Cowboy Bebop the Movie. I have the Australian version--how much of an improvement is it?

The AU BD is the same video encode as the Image (for that comparison).

No longer true.

A couple months ago Amazon removed the restriction.

Only for Amazon Warehouse US. So we're out of luck for third party sellers who would have otherwise shipped to Aus and for any other international Amazon besides US

Thanks! While I don't doubt that the Italian release is the "definitive" version to own, the difference is almost imperceptibly small IMO (that Image transfer still holds up quite well it seems). I'll probably just hang on to my Australian copy for the time being (or until I get mo' money).
