I think it's just the network covering their backside (especially with the parents rights people on the warpath). The nudity ends up being more suggestive than blatant, letting the audience fill in the nudity when there is none. It sure doesn't help matters with Archer bare a**ed naked with nothing but a shaving caddy covering his "wedding tackle". A new meaning for razor burn comes to mind. Or
[Show spoiler]Anka flashing her breasts every chance she sees Archer
.

The first season DVD had no more nudity than the original broadcast, but the language seemed to be completely uncensored.

i still wouldn't advise anyone to look directly at the next to last scene with
[Show spoiler]Mallory, Pam, and the german naked in the same bed together
. Talk about scarred for life.

Btw, the next episode, "A Going Concern", looks like it was originally supposed to be the first of this season. Network screwing with the order, again!

That actually makes sense... I was wondering how last night's episode was episode #13 (according to my EPG) when there were only 10 first season episodes. I suppose you could count the unaired pilot (haven't watched yet) on the DVD as an 11th episode.

It just irritates me that FX would do that. They did the same thing last year. "Mole Hunt" was the first episode of last season, but they aired "Training Day" first. I can see why some people decide to wait to download episodes in order or wait for the DVD.

Oh, about the lost episode. I won't spoil anything, but you are guaranteed to be disappointed. It can be seen as either a slight or a joke by Reed & Thompson.

The unaided pilot is Just Mole Hunt with a Velociraptor in the place of Archer.

I'm serious. It's hysterical.

I had already read about the "lost" episode... so I wasn't expecting much whenever I do watch it.

I wondered about the episode order last season... I had missed the premiere episode last year and had to DVR it for a few weeks before I got time to catch up... and it was peculiar when I went to watch them trying to figure out what to watch first.

I know what you mean. When I watched the first 2 episodes as they premiered, they felt out of place. While I watched the subsequent eps, they had a better flow to them.

Perhaps the network had so little confidence in the premieres that they felt it needed to start off with more of a bang. Although, the jokes in all of them are sound, the action in "Training Day" & "Swiss Miss" may have given some exec more of what they wanted (too many mommy jokes, not enough shootin' stuff with dead prostitute in the trunk).

Networks can be weird... and it is FX... which is ran by FOX... and they have a history of wanting to air episodes out of order due to some perceived failing that only they seem to see in airing shows in the intended order.

I guess I shouldn't complain too much. If it were on Fox proper, it would have been a) dumbed down to conform to broadcast standards, b) preempted for numerous sporting events (or worse, American Idol), or c) shuffled around the schedule until it's eventual cancellation. I should just be thankful for what I've got.

The show would probably do better in the ratings if it was on a network known for its edgy animated properties. The natural fit would be Comedy Central or even Cartoon Network's Adult Swim. Archer stands by itself on FX. The first episode started out great, but seemed to lose steam by the end on the extended snowmobile chase. The setup was awesome with the underage girl needing protection, but I thought they missed some obvious jokes. Archer himself is still the best character.

I see your point. If it were on Comedy Central right after something like South Park, it would get a broader audience. Adult Swim had their 2 previous properties, and they were moderately successful. I still think they would have a harder time getting away with saying "You freaked out when I said
[Show spoiler]quadroon
" or Carol talking about her sexual proclivities on broadcast television, tho. But on CC, it would be considered mild.

When I originally heard about this show... and who was behind it... I was surprised they weren't going to be on Adult Swim.

Then again, the previous shows by these folk on Adult Swim were of the 15-min variety in many cases...

I could also see it working on Comedy Central.

It's kind of the odd-man out on FX. I'm not complaining... but it doesn't fit with their other typical programming really... and honestly, it is the only show on FX that I watch so it is easy to miss if you aren't paying attention.

I don't know what happened between the creators and Adult Swim. Maybe it had something to do with the format of the show (30 mins. instead of 15), or possibly the money it takes to produce it. I know AS wanted the Venture Brothers to be 15 minutes, but the creators got them to approve it being longer.

As far as FX goes, they could have marketed it better. Last year, adverts were almost nowhere. Last Sunday, they had it all over their prime time line-up. It's as if they just learned how to advertise and decided to go all out for it.

From Deadline:

Quote:
The second season premiere of FX's animated comedy Archer last Thursday drew 1.5 million viewers, 986,000 of them in the adults 18-49 demographic. It was down 16% from the series premiere last year but significantly outperformed its first season average.
I've never liked the ratings system (I've never watched any of the shows that it claims are popular, and it can't take into account streaming or DVRs) but hopefully this is good news. Trying spread the word as much as I can so that more people watch and enjoy it as much as I do. I don't want to see a good show go to waste.

In anticipation for tonight's episode, I thought I'd share this:

The 10 Most Obscure Archer Jokes- Explained!
From Warming Glow. I particularly like the Johnny Bench one more after seeing the picture. Nice fingering, Truckasaurus!

Enjoy. And don't forget to watch.

Well, another crazy episode has come and gone, so I thought I'd share some highlights:

Krieger is not a doctor, in both the medical and scientific senses. It just makes what he does that much creepier.

Pam got deported from Jamaica. How does that happen? (it can't help that she hopes for a gang rape at the office)

Odin agent Barry talking suggestively to his 'oily' gun is one thing, but naked knee squats is just wrong.

Gillette is catty as usual. We also find out a little background on him.

We finally get to see Popeye the pimp.

The funniest moment comes from what Archer finds in his mothers' locked desk. I won't say what, but according to Gillette, it sounds like a jackhammer and must use 4 D cell batteries. ("That's no bumblebee. Is it black?")

Next week: Another paternity test for Archer. (Seriously. Wrap it up! And a candy wrapper doesn't work.) This time, from his favorite escort. (When they're dead, they're hookers!) It's up to ODIN to find out who's the baby-daddy. (Was Maury Povich busy?)

Until then, don't take breath strips (or anything) from Krieger. It's LSD.
