Default Sonic Mania

Even though I don't remember with any fond memories playing a Sonic game, I decided to buy Sonic Mania since the reviews were overwhelmingly positive and the price point was fair.

Only played for about 10 minutes so can't give an in-depth review but so far my experience has been a positive one.

Yes, there is an issue with the capture and home buttons but it's so minor and doesn't affect the game play at all.

Currently the #1 selling game on the Nintendo e-shop in Canada. I'm sure it's #1 where you are as well.

For those of you who bought it, thoughts so far?

It's great. But I don't like that it's digital only. I sprung for the Collector's Edition, and still, just a digital code. Sega is so cheap.

Also, when you beat the game with the true ending you find out that
[Show spoiler]it's a precursor to Sonic Forces.

It's a lot of fun. Easily worth the $20.

It's also very difficult in spots.

Glad I went w/ the Switch version over PS4.

I'm sure there will be some kind of patch to fix the home button/capture issue.

I've honestly had no issues with the capture and home buttons (or maybe I have but didn't think it was worth getting worked up over lol).

Love the game, but I grew up playing the old school Sonic games.

Now that I've had more time with it, I can understand the appeal for Sonic fans but I'm so bored with side scrolling platformers that I cannot appreciate this game as much as others.

Fighting and side scrolling platformers seem to be my least favourite genres. Puzzle and open world adventure games seem to be my favourite.

Looking forward to Mario Odyssey though and I'll get Skyrim as well. Mario Rabbids next week.

I'm liking it, but yeah I'm not nearly as much into 2D platformers as I was growing up.

I just don't have patience for the way they drag things out to inflate length. Lives are pointless and don't add difficulty. They just make you replay easy parts of levels when you die on hard parts/trial and error new sections and have to replay the whole level. It's especially annoying in this game with it only saving in zones so if you die at the end of the second level of a zone (including the boss fight) you have to play through both levels again.

Plenty of super hard indie platformers, Rayman Origins and Legends etc. that are difficult throughout or in places that just let you restart at check points indefinitely. The lives stuff has killed my interest in the Crash Remasters that I impulse bought. Sonic isn't as bad as it's not nearly as hard IMO.

As for the rest, probably just Mario Odyssey for me on Swtich rest of the year baring some surprise announcements. Not much on PC or PS4 that's interesting me either.

Fine by me as I have a solid rotation of games currently (Injustice 2, Tekken 7, FortNite, Mario Kart 8, Splatoon 2, Arms) and things in my backlog to get back to and get to in the first place.

It's sad to say, but I think my reflexes have slowed down over the years. As a kid with Sonic 3, I dominated the blue sphere bonus stages. As an adult with Sonic Mania, I keep failing. I try my best to avoid the red spheres but somehow I keep hitting them.

Such a great game! It's just a shame this never got a physical release.I think Sega should have back this 110% instead of making Sonic Forces imho.

If everyone that bought Sonic Mania agrees not to buy Sonic Forces, it would show to Sega what they should focus more on, which is more popular, and possibly will result in a physical copy of Mania.

I'm glad that the Nintendo eShop is accepting Paypal now. I just bought and downloaded this game.

I'm still working my way through the game and it's still a lot of fun and challenging. This is one of the better Sonic games I've played. It's totally worth the price tag.

I want it but then the sensible me decides to give them the finger. This is what the LE should have included instead of a ****ing voucher.

If all they offered was the game digitally, I wouldn’t have bought it. But with the Collector’s Edition, you get a cool statue that plays the old "Sega" jungle. The way I see it, I paid for the statue and got a free game.

The CE was $60, and I have a Link statue that cost me $80. So for me, it’s not as bad as if I just paid $20 for the digital by itself and then this got announced. I’d be more upset if that happened.

The Japanese release has the soundtrack included, and (I feel) a cooler reversible cover.

Pre-order here

The US Plus package sure is dumb. The slip is bigger then the game case to accommodate the included booklet. The issue with this is that there’s a void in the slip where the case is not and is prone to being smushed. Amazon also sent it in a bubble mailer. Morons.

I actually forgot this came out yesterday and never went to pick it up at Best Buy. I'm going to swing by tonight and pick it up along with the Marvel vs Capcom Funko 2 Packs that were marked down.

Encore Mode is basically Knuckles' Chaotix in Mania Mode.
