Default John Lennon - Imagine Box Set with new 5.1 and original 4.0 mixes Blu-ray pre-order

John Lennon: Imagine – The Ultimate Collection Blu-ray

John Lennon: Imagine - The Ultimate Collection Blu-ray

This could be a good box but yet another where it looks like the Blu Ray's will not be available separately.

I believe that is the release for the two movies and not the Blu Ray audio.

New 5.1 and stereo mixes as well as the original quadraphonic mix all presented in 24-bit/96kHz...hell yes! Sign me up.

Sounds like a very cool 4CD+2BD set, looking forward to all the breakdown/DNA stuff but definitely exited to hear how good a brand new 5.1 mix can sound sourced from 24/96 mono files of the first generation analogue multitrack tapes.

Fantastic news.

Ordered the most expensive option from the udiscovermusic website. Big Beatles fan so a no-brainer for me.

Hopefully we get an announcement soon for the rumored White Album super-deluxe!

Default Region-free?

I have ordered the Ultimate set from Amazon UK. Is it safe to assume the Blu-Rays will be region-free?

All the big bundles from Universal are sold out, but after shipping unless you needed the stuff you can't get anywhere else like the theatrical poster (which mentions Dolby Atmos and yes it would have been really cool to own!) it's more economical to order elsewhere.

I ordered the Super Deluxe Box Set from Amazon UK shipped to USA for £55.57 which is US$71.77 (CDN$92.68) - definitely the best option so far!

Why would anyone need the separate tracks of stems? Do they expect us to do our own mixes?

Yeah. The second blu-ray includes stems from the mix... in 5.1. How they can remix a single track into 5.1 has me puzzled. It seems a bit like excelsior. But this whole box seems excessive. All I really want is the album and singles and some outtakes. Quad and 5.1 where available would be nice. I don't need every single take of every single song and elements. I have a feeling if I get this I'll never listen to most of it.

I am not interested in listening to 10 thousand versions of each song on this album. Just sell my the album on Blu ray uncompressed along with the documentary. Thank you.

I'm with you, but at least they didn't saddle the thing with a ballast vinyl version this time. You can buy that separately. The market for 5.1 blu-ray is entirely different than the audience for vinyl

I gotta say this little graphic that the John Lennon Twitter account put out today has me REALLY excited for the 5.1 mix.

I wouldn't mind putting that music-editing software I have to use and remix John Lennon.

I hope that graphic isn't to be taken literally. I would expect there would be ambient fill in the rears and some spill from the left and right to other channels so it doesn't sound ping pong. And why would you put the bass in the center channel with the vocals? Shouldn't that be in the mains with the drums. This also shows that the two rears are paired as mono. I can see the lead guitar and the slide guitar being mono, but wouldn't the keyboards be recorded as stereo? I'm not seeing here what is making you excited.

Well I’m not super keen on much reverb in my surround mixes, I can listen to the stereo mix with PLII for that! They note John and Yoko wanted their multi tracks recorded dry unlike how Phil used to do it with the reverb all baked in, so I expect we will get to hear that win the 5.1 mixes.

The graphic shows the bass is mixed centrally in the image, not that it’s mixed into the Centre channel - much of the lower register will be in the LFE of course.

It’s showing the approximate location the in surround mix, bass narrow and central, vocals isolated in Centre where they should be (like The Stranger).

It only sounds ping pong if you bounce around speakers like Mike Oldfield’s bass in Tubular Bells 2003 DVD-Audio.

Maybe we are reading the surround mapping differently?

On the original album the strings were monoed but for this remix they note specifically that the strings were mixed into 5.1 so I expect they showing where I’m the image the Street Ng’s are found and not going so deep as to say where each of the 27 players are mixed.

“Matthew Cocker created brand new transfers of all the original multi-tracks, bounces, masters and sub-masters at Abbey Road”
