Default Bluetooth speaker recommendation

My son is getting some speakers for Christmas and after spending hours looking at black friday deals, i realized i should ask some audiophiles.
He will basically be connecting his phone, probably via Bluetooth, and likes to listen to funk and rap music. Therefore I think the bass should be good, but also be balanced to hear all the subtleties. We are looking to spend around a hundred dollars and unfortunately the best deal seemed to be an altec lansing on best buy that sold out. I know the best bet is probably the audioengine a2,but its just more money than my wife wants to pay. Any suggestions?

I have this Bose Bluetooth Speaker, and It has a very good sound and bass response. It does have two stereo speakers, but they're close together. The Bluetooth connectivity is easy and quick from your corresponding Bluetooth device.

On the contrary. I can not recommend any Bluetooth speakers, without exception. Even the word audiophile is a complete dichotomy to this entire thread, and should be removed entirely from the OP. I will concede though, for this instance, you would be 1000x better off with a good pair of Bluetooth headphones. This option is available within your budget.

Headphones are for private listening and headphones in general are too big, bulky and they're uncomfortable which is the reason why I don't like them. The majority of people have earbuds they're small and compact, and a good pair will sound just as good as headphones. The OP can get nice Bluetooth speaker for $100.00, especially now during the Christmas season. When I bought my Bose it was on sale for $99.00.

This shows you know nothing about the reproduction of audio. Stop speading misinformation. I do agree they will make sounds that are audible and other similar noises.

Everybody is not an audiophile, and could care less about HD audio when they're listening to music from their phone or tablet because portable devices don't reproduce that quality of sound anyway, only from an A/V receiver. All they want is to hear their music on the go in stereo. It doesn't have to be SACD or DVD-Audio quality. I don't think the OP was looking for state of the art headphones that cost hundreds or thousands of dollars, all they want is just an inexpensive BT speaker with a decent sound. If you want to go out and buy $2,000.00 multi-channel headphones that's your prerogative, but the OP was asking about a BT speaker.
