Default Need help programming a remote

So at Goodwill, I recently purchased a second player. A bdp-s300 model. It didn't come with a remote so I purchased one online. While the player works fine, the remote doesn't seem to be working. I figured I need to find a way to sync it with the new player but I'm not sure how too and anything I've tried to search hasn't been sufficient. If anyone knows how to program a remote to a player, it would be appreciated.

Mentioning the player model was good.

Mentioning the model of the remote may be extremely helpful.

did you buy an OEM remote for that model (i.e. the remote that comes with the player) If so it should not need any synching.
1) try taking your cell/tablet and open the forward camera. Then aim the remote at cell/tablet and press a button on the remote. If the remote works the camera should take the IR that is sent and make it visible

if you don't see one or more lights in the front the remote does not work

2) if the remote is not the problem go check the sensor on the player maybe something is blocking the reception of the signal

if it si a universal remote yes you will need to program it but like bhampton said you will need to tell us the model.
