I have a BRDVD3 & 4 and the 3 has a nicer case, but the 4 out performs it with loads times and it hardly makes any noise. Also the remote on the BRDVD4 does not have to be pointed directly at the RF sensor on the front of the unit, which was always a pain with the BRDVD3.

That's good to know. I've just fired up my BRDVD4 to watch my region B ROLLING THUNDER again to test.

About BD-Live, I have a BRDVD2 (Non-Wi-Fi), is the ethernet cable the only way to get Internet access to it? Is it possible to use Wi-Fi through the USB port?

Well, I've never used one on a computer either, but I found a USB WiFi adapter digging through some old stuff. Plugged it into the Insignia, but the Insignia doesn't seem to recognize anything. I don't know if I'm just doing something wrong or it just won't recognize it.

I'm thinking it doesn't recognize it because that was what I was thinking would happen. Its just not part of the firmware to look for it

Well ive been using THE INSIGNIA NS-WBRDVD2 and havent had a problem what so ever. ive been using it as my main Blu Ray Player and my PS3 just for 3D Movies. It loads slower and is a little bit louder then the PS3 but it works great and i get all my NICE little lights turned ON on my Receiver, for DTS-HD & Dolby True HD

Well, i bought Come Fly With Me Series 1 from AmazonUK thinking it would be fine since it's region free but when it came it wouldn't play. After doing some research I found out its 50hz. So I've been wanting a region free player anyway and just ordered the NS-WBRDVD2 from Best Buy. I mean for the price what can I lose? It's worth a shot and the majority of people posting seem to be doing okay. Now I can order the far superior UK Time Bandits blu-ray. Yay!

Just set my BRDVD4 up today. I sent the file over to my flash drive and popped it in the player and immediately got an ERROR 13000. I had initially saved the file on my hard drive and right clicked on the file and sent it to the flash drive. I erased the file and downloaded it again and this time I just dragged and dropped it on my flash drive. It worked. Popped in my new Mesrine region B blu and it worked.

I do have one question. Is there a way to make it permanently region B? At least when I power it on it stays Region B. As of right now if a blu is in the player when it powers on it says it can't play it. When I change the region it still tells me it won't play. When I remove the blu and power down, I power back up change the region and pop in the blu it works. Any easier way around this?

Edit: Thanks Detroit for posting this thread. Always wanted a region free player and this made it simple.

It's kind of strange that it acts differently depending on how it's transferred to the drive. Anyone have an explanation for that? Like does it show up differently on the drive's structure depending on if it's transferred directly to the drive, or whether it's dragged and dropped from your computer?

sorry, no there is no way to keep it at region B as these players were not supposed to be region free. They were only sold in region A and someone found that the older firmware and the remote code would bring up the other region options.

What I do is start the player, open the try, put the disc in, change the region, then close the tray.

Thanks a bunch for the nice comment

Yes. It does show up differently. Why? I have no idea
I have just figured out the Mac dilemma because I have a Mac & know the difference in file formats.

Heads-up, looks like Best Buy dropped the price significantly on a bunch of their refurbished insignia's and I believe they may have added a model that wasn't there before too.

LINK

NS-BRDVD3 - $49.99
NS-BRDVD4 - $49.99
NS-WBRDVD2 - $42.99
NS-WBRDVD3 - $49.99 (unconfirmed to work)

Some of those were like $79.99 just the other day I checked.

Ooooh, that's tempting. I've been kind of regretting not getting a backup when they were practically giving them away ($35ish, free shipping) last November.

Thanks very much, ssj! The BRDVD4 now lets me ship to the store as well -- it's been off and on store pickup available and not.

No, definitely refurbished. If they were new I'd have three or four

Since my Oppo regionfree DVD player got the pink light and passed along, I have been using the BRDVD4 for DVDs as well as BDs.

I know most of you don't use this for DVDs, but was wondering if perhaps this happens with Blus as well -- I was watching a subtitled film on DVD (Region 1) yesterday and noticed that every time I paused, stopped or arrowed back and replayed a bit, the subtitles would disappear. I had to hit the subtitle button on my remote to select English again. When I played the same disc in my Momitsu, the subtitles were retained in those situations.

Anyone have any experience with Blus and subs on this player? I will try myself when I have time, but just curious.

(Also, I noticed this player is more sensitive to scratches as it froze at one point so I continued on the Momitsu. It was a rental with quite a few scratches.)

I use it for DVDs (region B & C) as well & it had the same problem on a BD with subs. Somewhere in this thread or in the 'Eureka / Masters of Cinema/
' thread someone told me how to fix it....grrrrr can't remember right now but it was a simple fix.

Setting/Language/Subtitle/English will default to available English subtitles on.
