In a way I'm not shocked. Gunn and Safran are creating their own blueprint for the DC Universe and everything is going to have to align up. Patty Jenkins isn't going to be able to do her own thing, like she did with WW84. I still think there is a chance the next Wonder Woman movie will star Gal Gadot though.

How big of a hit is this for Patty Jenkins? She was on top of the world after the first Wonder Woman movie. Then she made Wonder Woman 1984 and she has lost her Cleopatra movie, her Star Wars film and now Wonder Woman 3. WW84 sent her career into a nosedive.

If the story is true and they are ending everything that came with the DCEU previously that'll be disappointing. We just got Cavill back and he even filmed a cameo for The Flash and now it looks like he lost the role again. I assumed when they announced that Cavill was coming back and Gunn/Safran were taking over DC in the same week that Cavill coming back was apart of the deal.

Not surprising that The Rock is out. He was clearly trying to jockey for a controlling position in the new DC universe. He even announced, on his twitter, that he was working on Black Adam 2 and a Hawkman spinoff. Clearly those announcements held zero weight.

The idea that they are also ending Aquaman after A2 comes out is also shocking. They are going to end the franchise even if the sequel makes another $1.2B or more?

I think Gunn is a great storyteller, but I was afraid that he was going to be focusing on the more strange and esoteric characters in the DC Universe, based on his previous history. The article mentions Momoa possibly playing Lobo although it just seems like speculating, I feel like any beginning of a DC Universe needs to begin with Superman, Batman and Wonder Woman movies at the center.

Not really surprised by this. That last one was pretty awful. Really enjoyed the first one, though.

That could work too, depending of course on whether Gunn and Safran agree with Jenkins on the boundaries for the story. Don't forget, that Jenkins walked out of the second Thor film because of disagreements with Kevin Feige; I can see her doing the same with the new DC heads if they push her too far. And if the past is any indication, Gadot might leave the role if Jenkins steps away.

I hope Gadot’s WW is in Gunn’s future plans. Sure WW84 was a bore, but I think she’s a good Wonder Woman - and I dread another (soft?) reboot.

My main concern with Gunn is his affinity for lesser known/niche/quirky characters. I’d hate for his focus to be on Space Cabbie.

Get a good Worlds Finest or Trinity movie going and build from there.

Not the least bit surprised by this after the epic fail that was WW84. Not surprised about Patty Jenkins losing all her other projects, either, though I am curious to see where Cavill figures into all of this. They just announced an actual Man of Steel 2 after having him show up in a post-credits cameo in Black Adam. Why do all that if they're just gonna reboot the DCEU, anyway?

This is my biggest fear, but I was excited when they announced Gunn/Safran because my expectations were so low based on who WB was interviewing for the position beforehand (Dan Lin) that I was just glad they signed someone who had shown they were capable of making a good movie.

Also since it was announced like a day after Cavill was announced as coming back for Superman that he was going to absolutely be apart of the deal.

The article says that Gunn and Safran haven't presented this to Zaslav yet, haven't told anyone about the plan yet and are in Aspen working on it so I'm not sure how this hollywood reporter writer knows so much unless Gunn and Safran themselves are feeding it to them. The article sounds like a lot of speculation though, with things just feeling like the authors opinion. The article mentions Momoa as Lobo but the report doesn't have anything real saying that he's going to play the role.

It'll be interesting to see what Zaslav says when they present to him. I feel like he stated a while back that the focus of the DC needed to be Superman, Batman and Wonder Woman. Is Gunn going to announce he focuses on a bunch of niche/quirky characters like Lobo and Blue Beetle?

In the end, even if they reboot everything, as long as I've got the Zack Snyder's Man of Steel trilogy (MOS, BVS and ZSJL) on 4k I'll be happy. Those movies will always exist and they'll always be in my position to go back to and enjoy.

I don't think its a lock that Gadot is out. Just that Jenkins out. Gunn and Safran clearly weren't interested in her doing her own thing again like she did with Wonder Woman 1984. Kind of crazy just how far she fell so quickly. It felt like she was going to become a superstar director in Hollywood after the first Wonder Woman and signed up for all kinds of big movies like Cleopatra and a Star Wars film (I think it was supposed to be a Rogue Squadron film) and then WW84 came out and she lost all of it, including now Wonder Woman 3.

I was shocked that they offered Jenkins the director job on WW3 in the first place after the first one sucked so bad. But then again Hamada was an incompetent buffoon.

Hopefully this means a new WW played by an actress with actual charisma.

Kind of expected with a new team coming in. They are going to want to do their own thing. I think they’re going to probably use The Flash as an end to the current DCU. They’ll probably recast nearly everyone.

Aquaman 2 comes out after The Flash, though.

It's just throwing good money after bad in trying to "fix" the current, fractured DCU. They may as well raze the current franchises and start anew, hopefully with people who know what the hell they're doing and maintain a semblance of proper continuity between the various films. We've had like three Jokers within the last 14 years.

This is good maybe there is still a chance Gunn gets that fake black canary hbo max show cancelled. If he wants to get rid of the current DCU

I suppose it doesn't, but if they are going to screw with continuity like that, they can't expect fans to run out and pay to see it. If the potential audience get the impression that the movies don't matter to the studio then they aren't going to matter much to the audience either. WB/DC could end up with four more Black Adam-like movies barely scraping by at the box office before their reboot.

It’s funny how both THE SUICIDE SQUAD and WW1984 failed at the box office due to the pandemic that James Gunn gets a promotion and is now running everything while Patty Jenkins career is apparently over.

Maybe they could just...drop the whole idea of an interconnected universe, and just have each DC superhero movie be a complete standalone? They could even market them as the anti-MCU ("Hey, kids, here's a movie you DON'T have to have seen 25 previous movies and ten TV shows to follow the plot of!"). Sequels, obviously, can follow the continuity of the previous movie(s), but keep each hero in their own separate series.

WB's been trying to glom onto that MCU magic since 2013, and they've rebooted so many times, it's pointless to keep trying.
