But I can't wait for more dolby vision content to be available. So glad I got a TV that's dolby vision capable.
If you watch Chef Table season 1 and 2 in UHD and the new Chef Table:France in Dolby Vision, you can clearly see the difference in quality on the latter

I can't wait till my set is calibrated! I've been messing with the settings daily, still haven't perfected it.

I did contact Chad B. though. He will be in my area in December!

You definitely picked the right guy to calibrate your OLED. He did my OLED and my previous plasma and when he got done they looked great. He stayed about 6 hours on one Tv and talked alot about what settings do what. He also does good work on avr calibration if you ever need that done and it made a huge improvement in sound over the stock avr calibration.

Been testing out some new settings, here are some screenshots taken with my galaxy s6. All unedited. Upon viewing it, these pics really don't do it any justice.

Marco Polo Dolby Vision

Some random jelly fish uhd thing on netflix.

What Dolby Vision and UHD picture settings are you using there?

Dolby Vision is the default bright room setting.

For UHD its HDR standard I believe. or if netflix doesn't use that, its my custom expert dark room setting.

Not sure whether to post in this thread or the other, but I absolutely love the picture on my 55" E6. However, I noticed a strange issue this past weekend. I watched We Are Still Here through DirecTV on demand cinema (1080P). What struck me as odd was the picture quality. It was horrible (first time I can say this with the set). Especially bad were dark scenes in the basement. It was basically unwatchable. I would assume this is a source issue, but I've never seen it before and found it strange because it was so bad. Has anyone else streamed anything from Directv or seen anything like this?

Not on DirecTV but on other low quality, heavily compressed sources, including Netflix

Is it fair in saying these new sets can make that type of content look much worse than other types of sets (older or current)?

OLED is showing the limitations of low bitrate material. It totally makes sense, if LCD monitors have been used for the last decade to author video, they will drop the bitrate to the lowest possible (or low enough to fit on a disc) that can't be seen on the target audience's screens.
Now we have a very high quality display (specifically talking blacks here for OLED) we can see what the compression algorithms are doing to get that low bitrate. This is why streaming and also broadcast TV is always going to be a compromise on picture quality. I'd love to strip my TV guide of all the dross channels and use that recovered bitrate to bolster the channels I watch, but that will never happen. I'd also like to tell Netflix to use the maximum bitrate my net will sustain, but that won't happen either. Top whack Netflick is about 25mb, if I and other customers asked it to send out 180mb the internet would fall over and Netflix would go bust.
This is the reason I hope disk based formats never disappear: for those that choose to watch the highest quality possible on their expensive home cinema systems, we need the option to have a high bitrate format available.

certain plasma tv's also make SD content look awful. Panasonic is one where you can actual watch non Hi Def without feeling ill.

FYI, my 9500 was touched up yesterday by Chad B, and what we found was very little shift after 702 hours of use. This is good news especially since my plasma experience was a lot of shift over 6 months time. IMO, at least 1500 hours before touchup if you are OCD , but I run 6 month visits normally regardless.

I also did not get my 3D mode done in April during the first cal, so he did it last night. The 3D looked great but I felt it had too much red, and he found the same with his as found measurements. I have my imported Jungle Book 3D and will be watching it this weekend, can't wait. BTW, the 3D mode on these dials in damn fine too.

Makes sense. What I thought strange was that the movie was supposedly 1080p streamed from Directv and unwatchable in dark/shadow scenes only.

Have you properly set your brightness setting to crush 17 and 18? Works on the 2015's with near black noise.

YouTube looks better on my Samsung Galaxy mobile than on my LG Oled C6

I've stopped watching 4k clips on YouTube. The quality isn't great. Netflix in uhd looks way better.
