Default How much do Slipcovers matter to you?

Do you HAVE to have a slipcover/case?

Are they important to you as a collector?

Does your blu-ray set or collection feel incomplete knowing you don't have it and it exists?

Or do you not care and discard them or are ambivalent?

i used to toss mine but then i noticed that the plastic of other cases would rub against each other, therefore blemishing it making it look worn/used over time, even though I take care of my physical mediaz.
slipcovers prevent that, keeping the case looking minty.
also nice to have alternate artwork if its another edition of the blu-ray.

I've never really cared all that much. They're nice but ultimately I'm interested in being able to watch a movie, not stare at a piece of cardboard

I have never gotten why people cared about slipcover, I guess I like them because they protect the Blu-ray. I've never cared about steel books either.

They go in the trash immediately after purchase. I have absolutely no use for them.

I like them, and have gone out of my way to get some (Ghibli, Marvel)... but I make a point to get the movies that I want slipcovers of on day one or soon after release. Not having one doesn't mean I won't get it, but it does mean I probably will wait for a price drop, and if I don't get them right away, then I don't expect a slipcover and it doesn't bother me.

never felt the urge to collect them or anything. then one day i decided to see how much room i'd save on my shelves if i took them all off...….after taking them all off, i saved about 3 shelves worth of space.....which is about 20 movies per shelf.

sold all of them on ebay and got around $150 or so. so now anytime i build up a good amount i sell them on ebay or on here.

Definitely. I want all the extras of the original release. Booklets, cards, any other memorabilia, and of course slipcovers.

I used to throw them away, now I put them in a drawer and forget about them. I'd love to have a fully curated collection but the logistics and price required makes it easier just to pretend they don't exist.

Mine just go in a box. They do get in the way so I don’t keep them with the movies They just lay around.

I don’t know (or care) what will happen to them in time.

For over a decade, I saved all manner of Blu-Ray and DVD and CD stuff that came with every edition. Eventually, I started running out of room in my collection, and decided to toss out or sell every single one that wasn't different from the sleeve/insert, unless I reallllyyy wanted to keep a slip.

That's how it continues today.

I like slip covers but they aren’t a necessity. If I’m at Best Buy, I’ll buy the copy with a slip, but if it’s not available, I don’t sweat it. I do certainly appreciate a good looking slip. I thought the Goonies UHD one was really nice. I also don’t really get upset if the corners aren’t perfect or other such blemishes. I am a sucker for lenticular slips. When Disney first started doing 3D, the slips they had were beautiful. The themed etched borders with lenticular art were a thing of beauty. I have boxes and boxes of them flattened out and wrapped in my attic. I have some pretty cool ones from the dvd days. Bottom line, they’re pretty cool, but if the industry decided to stop making them, I wouldn’t really care.

One more thing. I am really liking the Paramount Presents slips with the fold open theatrical one sheet art. Those are pretty sweet.

I like them, I threw them away in the DVD days and early blu ray days...now I think they look better on the shelf. A bit more slick and they keep the clear plastic covers nicer over time. You can sell and trade them.

they were trash for me for years until the recent line of dreamworks blu rays that have an all white slipcover with characters on the bottom of the spines. They look so nice on a shelf together that when i got a couple with no covers i returned them and bought ones with em.

Another one was harry potter 4k, the slipcovers have a neat "Year 1, Year 2, Year 3, etc." on the top of the spine that looks real nice when you line em up that isn't on the regular DVD Case. but theres like 3 of those that are extremely rare and i never found gave up and forgot about it.

i mostly only care enough to seek em out in cases like that or like if theres a set of X amount of movies and i have most in slipcover i might try to finish the set.

Ultimately for me its just about looking nicer on the shelves along with uniformity.

Regardless i'd rather have it than not, The reality is in a 4k movie purchase you can split that up into multiple resells and really cut down on the cost of the disc itself if you're the type that cares.

Like sell the digital code for 5-10 bucks on a new release, sell the slipcover for 5 bucks, hell you could even sell the blu ray for 5 bucks and just keep the 4k disc since its likely the only thing you need for most people.

I've only sold digital codes but knowing the slipcovers are worth something to someone is encouraging to me. especially since i am very much the get rid of the old to make room for new kinda person who purge sells a buncha stuff every few years.

I prefer to have them, but it’s not a deal breaker. I’ve bought plenty of blu rays without them. For some reason I’m much more particular when it comes to 4Ks.
