PS3 just died again, opinions wanted. - Blu-ray Forum

My PS3 just got the yellow light of death for the second time and I'm not fixing it again any time soon. So what do you guys recommend as a BD player? 3D is a must. I have a Roku so I don't have a need for the streaming stuff. I'd use WiFi if the player came with it but its something I could do without. So basically I'm looking for the best player with quality 3D playback for the best price. I'm not looking for the Oppo priced players either. Looking to stay under $150.

Consider getting a region free Player off of EBAY , they list for more than $150 but they do accept lower offers.

I have a region free 3D Samsung 5900 player that works great.

Could possibly buy another ps3, they can be found for $111 at Gamestop new. If you can find one of these http://www.gamestop.com/ps3/consoles...productDetails and sell the Disney Infinity set for maybe $20 you could end up paying less then $100 for it. Maybe worth a shot?

I'd just get the current Sony player that has 3D.

I have the 590 I think and still have a 470 upstairs for another display.... I think I gave my 370 away but it still worked fully.

I get mine at BJs.... but costco also works... they both carry the Sony players.

Best BDP's if you ask me.

(Edit - Others will say Oppo and that's fine... I'm sure those are great they just don't appeal to me.)

Make sure the player you get has 2 HDMI ports.

u can also call sony I think they will provide an out of warrenty replacement for ps3 systems for 100 maybe less now that ps4 is out not sure.

I want to thank everyone that replied. I went ahead and picked up the Sony bdp-s5500. I haven't really had a chance to play with it yet. Hopefully it will hold up until 4k stuff is cheap.

I was wondering the same thing. Only thing I can think of is because I have a TV and projector in the same room. But everything runs through the receiver. That comment confused me also.

I guess you'd need two HDMI ports if the receiver wasn't capable of passing through 3D, so one HDMI plugged directly into the TV for 3D and the other going to the receiver for audio.

Seems like an annoying setup though as I like to minimize the number of HDMI ports & cables being used, but you do what you gotta do if you're on a tight budget.

MY PS3 died recently as well and i got the latest Sony 3D bluray layer from costco but really hated it as it did not have bluray remote (which is a huge plus for ps3) and would freeze once in a while till i power cycle. It also did not have optical audio out which i use on PS3 for my surrpundosund headset.

Returned it and got my PS3 fixed for $80.
