Default BLUE RAY camcorders

Does anyone out there have any scoop on when Sony and others might come out with the first Hi Def , Blue Ray camcorders??

first of all, don't post the same thing more than once

second, nothing has been announced for such camcorders yet, and i doubt we'd see them any time soon.

720p camcorders, be it with cassettes, dvds or hdds, are quite rare yet, and expencive. some of the models out there don't live up to be called "high-definition" in terms of quality even in perfect lighting conditions, and in poor lighting a lot of them perform very poorly. i've not heared of any 1080p camcorders at all yet, seems like its out of our current technological abilities. so you see the sensors themselves have a way to improve yet.

then there's the bluray tech side... there are not even bluray players out yet (except for a single exception), no recorders, no nothing. pc drive recording speeds are still minimal (i've only heared of one device offering 4x speeds, and only for single-layer discs), media compatibility problems are to be expected this early (but how can that even be tested without players out yet?)
and we're still talking about big bulky boxes, not a compact drive like what'd be needed for a camcorder/portable media player.

i'm sure we'll see such things later, maybe in a year from now, but nothing certain is known yet. its still too early.

and btw, a hdd camcorder sounds like a better chioce to me now, with perpendicular-recording drives giving insane capacities... and you can transfer the video to bluray using a computer.

You'd probably have to wait longer if ever you want to see a Blu-ray video camera/camcorder.

If DVD came out during 1998/1999, then it took more than FIVE years for Sony to release their DVD-7 Handycam which has Sony's first ever DVD camcorder.

So expect a long wait. For sure though, you won't see one next year :P

Speaking of which, if you don't have the patience to wait that long, why not try an HDD Camcorder?

May I suggest the Everio G series line from JVC or the one from Sony which is an HDD camcorder that is "Full HD 1080" (meaning it can produce video @ max. 1080 p resolution)

these models are releasing this fall:

They both record in the AVCHD format one to a Hard Disk Drive(30gb-4.5hrs), the other to and 8cm Dual Layer DVD recording 1 hr of High DEF.
You can either connect the HDD model "SR1" to your computer and burn the content to a DVD disc or Blu Disc or just pop the DVD from model "HDRUX1" and it will play back in a Blu Disc player.

The AVCHD format will play HD on standard DVD media in a Blu Disc player. So right now there is no need to make a Blu Disc Camcorder.

My guess though is that in another couple of years when mini blu-ray discs become prevalent you will see the roll out of blu-ray camcorders so that they can take advantage of the increased storage space.

Yeah trying to cram all that new technology in a handheld device is gonna take some time.

Sony sells them in Hong Kong already.

HDR-UX1/E

Both are AVCHD camcorders and use the Clearvid CMOS Sensor (2.1 megapixels).

The rest of the details can be found on those sites.

Hope that helps
