Originally supposed to be released tomorrow, Trance marks the return of director Anwar Rasheed, 8 years after the phenomenally successful Ustad Hotel. Unfortunately, CBFC played spoilsport by trying to enforce cuts amounting to 17 effing minutes, and although the Revising Committee has cleared the film with a UA and zero cuts, the release has now been pushed to Feb 20. Going by the two songs released so far, it's obvious that Fahadh Faasil plays Biju Prasad, a motivational speaker who tries to make it big on his own, and what is not so obvious is the very premise itself. The songs are composed by debutant Jackson Vijayan, and arranged by his brother, the hotshot composer and guitarist, Rex Vijayan.

The first song Raat, like the film's title, hints at possible substance abuse and/or rave creeping somewhere into the plot, with the singers Sneha "Kehke Loonga" Khanwalkar and Neha S Nair sounding high AF, aided by the increasingly trippy arrangements. And if the lyric video itself looks like an insane acid trip, I wonder how the actual visuals (Amal Neerad) and sound mix (Resul Pookutty) are gonna be.

The other song, Noolupoya (Snapped Threads), charts the protagonist's career, complete with chest-thumping motivation gone awry, colorful wall posters, hilariously cheesy TV ads (Fahadh is too good here!) and Yankee accent training ("Am-ri-cah! Am-ri-cah! AM-RI-CAH!!!") before abruptly getting cut midway to him and the leading lady, Nazriya (also the actor's wife) rocking tuxedos and strutting in style. Sung by Tamil singer Pradeep Kumar, the track boasts of an eccentric jugalbandi of sitar and electric guitar that is as catchy as it is weird, accompanied by beats with varying levels of trippiness.

Interesting, although the first video should have a strobing lights warning for the beginning segment.

Hi All

Just want to give a heads up to those that enjoy classical music, a beautiful album by the name of Mann Bheetar got released on digital media about three weeks ago. It is a great change to what Bollywood has been dishing out. All the tracks are Raga based and richly composed by Rajeev Mahavir. It has an ensemble of brilliant singers and they do not disappoint.

Tracks are:

1. Bhari Bhari - Shreya Ghoshal (Raga Gujri Todi)
2. Ithlati - Javed Ali (Raga Megh Malhar)
3. Tum Sang - Ustad Rashid Khan (Raga Puriya Dhanashree)
4. Mann Bheetar - Shreya Ghoshal (Raga Gorakh Kalyan)
5. Baji Re - Sukhwinder Singh (Still Figuring out the Raga)
6. Main Na Manungi - Bombay Jayashree (Still Figuring out the Raga)
7. Thunga Thunga - Pt. Birju Maharaj (Raga Maru Bihag)
8. Brikuti - Bombay Jayashree (Raga Malkauns)

A beautiful Album
