Hello Rocky:

There are various posts out there dealing with depth settings and I was just wanting to confirm from Paul if he still favors the 20 and-5 settings, and if he experiences any shrinking of the sides as a result of using these settings for 3d.

When 3D is set to "Manual Mode", 3D Depth @ 20 and 3D Viewpoint @ -5 produces extreme changes in the pixel mapping structure of each image which will combine together as one stereo image. Shrinking and expanding of the sides compensates for the image placement in the stereo structure.

I then set 3D to "Auto Mode" with the manual settings still set at the extreme values. And I find this effective for both my displays!

Why? Because despite the fact that some enthusiasts feel I am experiencing only a 3D placebo effect, I have gone through a multitude of 3D titles using the time-codes with Manual settings at default and at extreme, while the displays are in "Auto Mode".
Visual highlights of ground surfaces look flatter, using my memory recognition as my reference, as dry land and/or sea protrudes back in the image Z-plane, plus I also experience foreground foliage intensified-in-placement. Props are also used as gauges for the pertinent frame-of-reference.

Just asking you to try it both ways if you have the opportunity.
After all, if you're one who thinks 3D intensification is a placebo effect, leaving the settings in "Auto Mode" will nullify the manual 3D setting values anyway!

Default Thank you Paul

I now consider the matter settled. And I do agree for what it is worth.

I can tell a very big difference when using your settings, but I just wanted to make sure for future reference, for others, that I wasn't misstating your position.

Always a pleasure; i have used your name in vain in the lg owners thread I created yesterday as you have been so instrumental in my viewing of 3d on my OLEDs. I hope you don't mind.

So do you guys go back to selecting Auto once you manually switch to 20/-5?

You see, I was under the impression that we would switch to Manual 3D, set things at 20/-5 and leave it there. Now I understand that there was an extra step, so once we have selected 20/-5 we switch back to Auto

What do you guys do for color in 3D? It seems to me like colors look flat in 3D picture mode

My wife and I love the 77. I keep the 65 in my Man Cave. Hope these LGs last many years because no TV manufacturer has included the technology in TVs in the foreseeable future. LG's 3d technology may be TOO good and frightened Hollywood. Might it keep people out of theaters ???? Nip it in the bud before prices got lower and everyone could afford it.

I feel the same way. I bought a 77, a 65g and a 65c. Why would LG stop making something they had perfected and no one else had and that had been the true holy grail of tv since the very beginning? I think one day we will know, and we may well be very surprised, but your conclusions are certainly good answers.

I have never been able to find out how many 77s LG sold, but I have only come across 7 people, including myself, who have talked about owning one; 4 here on bluray.com and the avs forum, and 3 reviews on Amazon by persons saying they bought a 77.

LONG LIVE THE 77!

Keep gamma at 2.4 while raising the oled light level. Colors are more robust then. Keep the standard brightness setting at 50 though. Anything above impacts the perfect black levels.

Unless you are using reference 3D glasses you pretty much have to raise the oled light setting to 100 as standard passive 3D glasses darken the image.

I played around with my settings on the OLED65E6P some more today (for 3D) and these settings look really good:

Oled Light 90
Contrast 95
Super Resolution High
Gamma 2.4

I must say, I am surprised by how many of you list 2.2 for gamma (especially for 3D playback). When viewing 3D content the colors are much more vibrant at 2.4 in 3D. As long as it’s a dark room, those settings should be pretty excellent. Obviously some personal preference is involved but these are pretty good settings.

Right now my standard Blu-ray settings are at 45 oled light and 85 for contrast. Given the 3D glasses can dim the brightness up to 50 percent, doubling it seems a good idea. I had it at 100 for 3D earlier but am trying it at 90 now. I know leaving it at 100 (maxed out) can decrease panel life span.

Anyone else experiment with their 3D settings more since first posting settings in this thread?

I've not really expiremented with the TVs internal 3D settings but yesterday I did do a 3D LUT with MadVR using the LG 3D glasses on the colorimter lens. I have to say that's made quite a dramatic difference to colour and gamma. After running a verification I have a really accurate greyscale, gamma and colour after the glasses. Because MadVR allows you to turn the LUT off and On at a keyboard short cut - it's very obvious the difference this has made. MadVR's debanding also massively helps with the poor noise handling of these 2016 sets.

For what it's worth on a 10% window I was getting 150 nits after the glasses. It's more like a 75% drop in peak brightness of the display after the glasses. I run OLED light at a 100 for newer 3D titles because I find they have a lot more dynamic range than older ones.

On test patterns I don't find super resolution actually does anything. Wondering when it's supposed to be invoked.
