For reasons too boring to get into, I'd left two transparent storage boxes of blu-rays at my parents' house.
Today I found out they'd left 'em standing in the place MOST vulnerable to the midday sun (have attached a pic). I didn't have time to actually check the discs or covers - so my OCD tendencies demand that I turn to this forum for (hopefully) some reassurance... A couple of hours worth of midday sunlight daily'ish - for five days... How worried should I be about faded covers? ![]() Last edited by darthfrede; 08-17-2016 at 08:37 PM. |

They haven't faded yet. The papers use ink that should withstand months/years of direct light. No different than posters.

I'd imagine they're perfectly fine. I have quite a few movies in another room that have been facing a sunny window 24/7 for quite some time.

I had some DVDs a while back which had sun faded spines. Luckily they were titles I've been upgrading to Blu-ray and not my boutique label stuff or the few Blu-rays I had then
They were exposed to direct sunlight as the room received the sun full on all day, and they were near the window (a Velux loft window) with no blind |

I always have my curtains drawn when the sun shines brightest through my window. I close the blinds MOSTLY but not all the way and I have thin curtains drawn to boot. Some light will still come in through both of those precautions like this:
![]() ![]() My window looks like this: ![]() The opening in the middle of the two curtains isn't where the light is coming through it's the drawstring slots and mostly from the completely curtained off left side since that's the direction of the sun coming in. Without the blinds up and curtains down direct sunlight will come in but in this case is the light so filtered through it wont actually affect the colors on the sleeves really at all? I worry about this. Last edited by chocolat; 08-26-2020 at 02:44 AM. |
