Sony Playstation 5 / PS5 - Will it be 3D Compatible?

I see it's been posted it doesn't support 3D but I can confirm. It appears the PS5 does not support 3D blu-ray playback or 3D in PS4 games with 3D support. Put in Friday the 13th Part 3. When you go to play the 3D option it says your system or display doesn't support 3D. Put in Trine 2: Complete Story. The 3D options are all grayed out.

Did you try the VR headset mate? Or will it not let you get to that stage.

Well I have no idea if Sony is getting out of the 3D game completely or not but the PS4 didn't originally have 3D Blu-ray support at launch either. In fact it wasn't even added until 7 or 8 months after launch via an update.

Let's hope they add it to the PS5. But there's no reason it should even ship without 3D support. It's not like 3D is a new feature.

At this point that seems like a real possibility. But enough people just shrug, they may not bother. Where does one contact Sony to demand that they include 3D compatibilty? Are they still planning a PSVR2? I would have thought it'd be a big selling point for that.

I think we're going to have to make a bit of a fuss and kick up a bit of a stink about this. We can't allow more to slip. 3D needs as much support as possible.

I had to buy a new BD player over the summer. My Samsung crapped out. Bought a Sony BDP-S3700. No 3D BD support.

Why pay the licensing fees which gets expensive for a feature that is no longer used by the overwhelming majority of consumers

Where is this coming from? As far as I know, the PS5 has the ability to play 4k discs. Hence, it has a 4k player in it. And all 4k players are 3D compatible, or am I mistaken? If not, there's no way these rumors are true.

The new PS5 does not support 3D Blu-ray. Nor does the new Xbox one X.

3D Blu-ray's started being released onto the market in mid to late 2010. One of the first being Cloudy With A Chance of Meatballs (A Sony release mind you) and the PS4 hit shelves late 2013. So once again there was no reason for the PS4 to not have 3D support at launch either and it even took months for it to even get it down the line with an update.

3D Blu-ray's are still getting released even in a much more diminished way I still think it is possible to be added via an update in the future. Although I wouldn't put money on it and say it is very likely. We shall see.

Because there is a market of six million people who might want to watch 3D in their VR headset. Many do. It would be a welcome feature in the next gen VR headsets.

VR has natural stereoscopic lenses so it would be a software update on Sony’s side I think.

I can now confirm that on PS5 3D does not work even through PSVR. For example, I took Friday the 13th Part 3 which let's you watch in 2D or 3D. When you go to play in 3D it tells you that your player may not support 3D (same as when PSVR is not hooked up). It let's you try anyway. When you do, the picture is clearly 2D, not just on the TV but through the PSVR lenses too.

I see, thanks for that. Hopefully a patch at some point.

Ps5 is just a PC light. It can't do s**t!
It's been constantly downgraded since ps3. Gonna hang on to my ps4 pro.

No HEVC H265 support in mkv files. No stereoscopic support. No VR planned for the future. Sony constantly push new great tech on us, and the cooler it is, the faster Sony drops it.

Won't support them anymore, and neither should any other VR/3D enthusiast out there.
