Although the X-Files defined sci-fi on TV in the 90's I think because Fringe is more modern (I know, it's not really a good excuse!) and basically just the nature of it all. Nothing to do with Anna Torv of course.
To be honest if X-files carried on with all the Alien stuff like it started out as it would have been much better. Once it went far away from that I got bored and stopped watching.

Fringe had a somewhat pathless season 1 and a poor first half in season 2 and now in season 4 it seems to be some what stalled.

Which is better ? Neither IMO X-files subjects spread way beyond fringe science where as fringe tells a story through that one subject.

Not sure why but I can't vote on the Poll

I think the numbers would change substantially if the poll wasn't closed. I enjoyed the X-files, but I LOVE FRINGE. I think FRINGE has done a much better job of weaving weekly one-off type tales into their core mythology.

I think the likely shorter run of Fringe will also endear it to me more. The X-files lost my attention when it crawled into season 8. I do wish FRINGE would get at least 13 episodes for Season 5.

X-Files - such a good show, especially when it was on.

I'm almost done with X-Files and I have to say Fringe gets the nod for me. There were too many X-Files episodes where I felt like I've seen this before. I know the show inspired a lot of other shows but, it was like watching black & white after watching color. It's not really fair to compare the two with the time gap between them.

Overall I think Fringe had the better character development and the bold alternate universe storyline in its favor. Fringe motw and mythology meshed seamlessly.

X-Files sadly Fringe went down hill after season 2 and while X-Files went down hill after season 7 I like it more the Fringe. Still have not seen season 4 and 5 of Fringe so Fringe might pick up but Season 3 put me off.

#1, I personally enjoy Fringe better, and its because of Olivia, Peter and Walter Bishop! I just finished the final season last night and I am going to miss Fringe. But I just know we will see Joshua Jackson and Anna Torv again someday wether its another TV show or in the movies. But I did grow up in the eighties and I am old enough to have watched the X-Files when it was on network television and I very much enjoyed that show but for totally different reasons.

#2, Nobody on the X-Files is even remotely close to being as hot as Anna Torv is.

Simple answer is Fringe. Though I have immense respect for The X-Files for what it did for the genre.

The X -Files I found that Fringe fall apart after season 2 and never really recovered.
