Reading the 3D concert thread made me think how much I wanted this to be converted into 3D. It is Eva Cassidy's concert in Blues Alley DC in Jan 1996 as watched by original surviving band members. It is not really a concert per se but a documentary.
Just came out 2 nights ago. |

I always thought that Scooby-Doo 2, Pirates of the Caribbean 3, Speed Racer and 2001: A Space Odyssey would look amazing in 3D. Those movies have shots with amazing depth that would involve incredible pop-outs.
For more recent movies I have to say Deadpool, that credit sequence at the beggining begs for 3D. |

Recently saw Casablanca for the first time. Kept thinking how great this movie would look in 3-D.
However I’d prefer that studios spend the money on restoring Golden and Silver age 3-D features and shorts before converting older movies to 3-D. |

Well, I watch many of my bluray disks in simulated 3D.
Note this requires much more than just adjusting simulation strength. I use the vivid modes on both my player and monitor and then callibrate the monitor's user settings as best as possible with the Disney Wow calibration disc and then make some slight, final variations via eyeballing to improve the picture quality further. My darbee 5000S also further enhances the overall picture quality and 3-D effect. So many appear better than expected without ghosting or shimmering and I was really surprised how so much of the original color, sharpness, detail, contrast, etc. was retained. The ones that really stood out for me were: Peter Jacksons King Kong Goldfinger On Her Majestys Secret Service Interstellar Star Wars II (DVD) Rocky Mountain Express I would tend to say these had much more realistic depth than German autoconversion and can only imagine how well they would appear if professionally upconverted to 3D. Some didn't fare so well due to age and limited space to "stretch" out like Forbidden Planet. I also do not attempt this on epics like Lawrence of Arabia because this does diminish the outstanding restoration process. But if I want to give myself an extra treat, I throw in a favorite bluray and more often than not enjoy it simulated. |

Do miss the days when the studios used to convert some of the old films to 3d . maybe when Avatar 2 comes ?

Dreamscape (1984)
Even in the 80's when I would watch Dreamscape on HBO I always felt it had the same look that other 3-D movies that I had seen in 2-D on HBO and VHS and I have always wondered if they originally intended it to be a 3-D film but changed their minds for whatever reason. I recently found out that it was never filmed in 3-D but I think it would probably benefit from a 3-D Conversion. ![]() |

Sonic The Hedgehog (2020) - Could've been out in 3D but most of the budget went in remodelling Sonic.
Tom and Jerry (2021) - Filmed in 1.85:1 and not in 3D. It would've been interesting to see the blending of animation into live-action footage, in 3D. |
