Do the HBO Go thing. On Disney+ for a nominal fee for the first month or two (i.e. NOT thirty goddamn dollars) and in any theaters open by early May. Don't keep pushing your movies back, studios. By the time it's "safe" to have 4,000-screen max-capacity rollouts for movies like Black Widow, A Quiet Place II and No Time To Die, it's gonna be like bursting open a bag of potato chips that are six months past the expiration date.

WW1984 has made about $36M domestically as of last weekend. Tenet managed to pull in $58M total by the end of its three month run yet Nolan was bagged for having cinemas open and some of them said it would've been better to stay closed. Saving theatres (in the US at least) will take more than product, it takes safety and the ability for theatres to even be open, which is on getting Covid under control. Any kind of digital release along with being in theatres isn't going to do much for keeping them open.

Obviously there are safety concerns, but the fact that, even in areas where theaters have been allowed to re-open, pickings are so slim also factor into why people have been staying away from the cinema in droves. And the fact that the only two post-Covid "blockbuster" offerings to date (Tenet, WW84) have been major disappointments hasn't helped. If Godzilla vs. Kong is as bad as WB's previous two releases, it's gonna drive the nails even deeper into the coffin containing movie theaters.

Vaccines are not a magic bullet. There will be no free for all when theatres open. Safety measures and limits will still need to be in place for some time to come.

My apologies. I should have been more precise in my wording: I meant: "once theatres open at full capacity", not with restrictions. Having said that, we are probably looking at early 2022 at best until that can happen.
