Somebody really should have told Marc Platt that Manchester is not in Scotland. And then told him he can't do a Scottish accent either.

Ordered:

Stargate SG1 complete series - £59.49 EntertainmentStore via ebay

I bought Seasons 1 & 2 cheap used in November and had considered just picking them up a couple of seasons at a time. But knowing my luck I'd receive all 10 seasons in the bulky original sets (1 disc per 14mm case, 5-6 of those in a slipbox).
[Show spoiler]
Thanks random ebay listing

In the past I've bought 6 disc amaray 15mm cases, it's a great way of drastically slimming down a boxset. But instead of buying 10 of those + the season sets, it just makes more sense to get the complete boxset new and not have to faff about making custom spines and so on. I also had some Christmas money burning a hole in my pocket.

I didn't start watching s1 until about mid-December and due to only having s1&2 I was trying to pace myself. I've been swapping between SG1, DS9, various films and games. I was approaching the final few episodes of s2, yesterday I did a double bill of ep17 'Holiday' & ep18 'Serpent's Song'. So I looked at the s3 & s4 prices and then just ordered the complete boxset instead.

It's interesting watching the series now in my 30s. I would have been around 10 or 11 when it launched and I watched it sporadically for a few seasons. I think I largely watched it via VHS recordings by my dad, so when he lost interest I guess that source was cut off. Not sure if it was affected, but I remember Sky removing access to Sky1 on VirginMedia (or was it still NTL Digital at the time?), so it's possible that SG1 was simply one of the shows lost in that tit-for-tat battle.

I have enjoyed the first couple of seasons. There have been occasional moments that stirred a 2 decade old memory, but largely its like watching it fresh. It'll be interesting to see if SG1 holds my attention for the complete series run.

I ordered it late on Thursday night and it arrived today (Tuesday), so not too bad. No damage to the cases, no doubt due to the sturdy outer box, but the discs are housed in 3x jumbo cases, stacked 2 per spindle and overlapping. Also they use those annoying Scanavo hubs, where you have to yank the discs out...
So I may end up getting custom cases after all. At the very least I've going to find or buy a 6 disc case, so I can grab a season worth of discs at a time.

I went through all 60 discs, making sure I didn't have any duplicates or missing. I found that 4/60 had some concerning scratches or scuffs, so scanned those in the PC via some DVD software. All passed the scans, but due to the individual volume releases, I could have replaced them if necessary.
Although it's not great to open a sealed set and find scratched discs. Not a seller issue, obviously a manufacturing issue, exacerbated by the poorly designed jumbo stacking cases.

These weren't super expensive, but they're not in great nick either, I'd like to replace it with the complete set (I already have Season One) if it drops down under £20. The seller also charged me for three lots of postage and shipped them all together, I wouldn't have minded a little discount!

When I purchased the set a while back one of the volumes was faulty, I think it was volume 30, one of the episodes had an issue around the opening credits.

Thanks, I'll take a note of that, but it will be a while. I'm still on the last disc of s2, volume 7.

I'll try and dig up the point where the issue is and let you know.

Thanks, but if its not on the v30 disc, I don't want you to waste your time searching other discs (the heads up was enough). I'll just keep an eye out for any problems as I work my way through the set.

After finishing the last couple of episodes of New Amsterdam season two I finally finished off this set. Both Mawdryn Undead and Enlightenment were fine while Terminus was a chore.
