Erm...why not just link to your wishlist?
I like to wait for reviews and price drops so I generally don't pre-order, but in 2 cases recently I made an exception - the Universal Classic Monsters 8-BD set and the 1990 version of Night of The Living Dead from Twilight Time. Passion of Joan of Arc and Die Nibelungen from the Masters of Cinema series are certain purchases. I also hope to get some Hammer horror (Devil Rides Out, Curse of Frankenstein...and do I dare hope for a near future announcement of Horror of Dracula?), although at about 15GBP each, the Studio Canal releases aren't exactly cheap. Mario Bava's Black Sunday is big on my want list, and from the Criterion Collection I will be locking down on Gold Rush, Red Desert, In The Mood for Love and (holy freaking scat!) Rashomon! Ravenus,
I know you said you don't pre-order but if you have a couple of movies that you would like to get from the U.S and the pre-orders are up, it's cheaper to get them that way. The greater the number of items, the cheaper the shipping cost becomes. For example, I wanted Act of Valor from the U.S as it's distributed by Momentum Pictures in the UK who have a bad reputation. But buying only Act of Valor from the U.S with Priority shipping would have been expensive (70 $). But since I pre-ordered 12 more blu-rays, the 'per item' charge reduces drastically. I ended up paying only 30$ for Act of Valor including Import fees, etc. Most of the time, the import fees is refunded, so it comes to only 5$ for shipping each item. And it's PRIORITY Shipping. It ends up becoming cheaper than U.K's standard shipping. Snow White in the U.K with Standard Shipping - 17 pounds (1500r.s) with a chance of being charged customs Arrives in around 10 days Snow White from the U.S with Priority Shipping - 30$ (1520 r.s including shipping, packing, import fees/customs) with a chance of import fees being refunded Arrives in 3 days Amazon U.S priority shipping ends up being faster and cheaper and the transfer of blu-rays is usually better with awesome slipcovers. The reviews come out much before the blu is released, so you can always cancel before it ships. But again, this only works for new releases or items. That's why I ordered The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo remake from the U.K as it's only 10 pounds (880 r.s) as compared to 22$+10$=32$ (Around 1600r.s) in the U.S Last edited by srinivas1015; 09-21-2012 at 05:46 PM. |

Kushal, I suggest placing a larger order (with pre-orders of coarse) which will be shipped over the next few months. this way, it will be cheaper and it will arrive in 2-3 days. Deposit is in the bill as 'import fees deposit', most of the times this is returned. If the locals charge you, don't pay them and say you already did and show them the invoice with the 'import fees deposit'. This happened with me. They'll apologise and won't take the money. But buying a single item will be expensive. My items get shipped when they're released. FOr example, I'll be charged for Amazing SPider-Man only in November when it's shipped. Well recently for all Standard shipping orders from Amazon US, the website has started charging custom duty as a deposit at the time the order is placed on the site. On the positive side, all packages are sent with a tracking number and through Aramex courier. Shipping time has been also drastically reduced. Typically for a Standard shipping item you should expect to receive it within 7 to 9 days of shipping ( against 4 to 5 days for priority shipping ). I have received around 8 packages over the last couple of months using the standard shipping and the local authorities have not charged any customs duties. This basically makes priority shipping redundant unless you are in a tearing hurry to get your item.

EDIT It still says around 20 days for standard shipping and the difference between standard and priority shipping only amounts to around 1200r.s no matter how many items you order. So if you order around 14 blu-rays at once, you'll definitely get your money's worth for Priority shipping. If these are pre-orders for around 4-5 months, it's definitely worth it. ![]() My advice to you would be to cancel Rambo immediately as you've used Standard Shipping. Order Rambo and a few other titles that you know you'll be getting (like The Dark Knight Rises, Amazing SPiderman, Prometheus, Men In Black 3, etc) and place an order for all of those AND Rambo and choose priority. YOu'll be charged 14$ of shipping for Rambo which will be shipped right away via priority and them will be shipped later. SO, you'll be paying 200r.s more for priority shipping for Rambo. Trust me, it will be much cheaper and you'll get them faster as well. Chances are, you'll get your import fees deposit back as well. |
