I quickly flipped through all three discs and can confirm the BoN has a very healthy transfer . Whiie Zagen and Black Rain definitely have a better transfer the new arrow disc of BoN is far superior to the old disc of Eureka

So since the Korean edition came in without English subtitles, I had to get an English-friendly release for Confessions. Third Window Films of course had their release but it’s OOP now, so I thought it’s going to be a hard task getting one for a good price. Thankfully, I was able to pick one up off eBay for just £10 sealed, which is an absolute bargain compared to what I’ve seen it go for in the past!

Looks like everybody other than Amazon UK is shipping to India now ( from UK). In the last few months I have ordered , and received , packages from Zavvi, Arrow, Eureka and Powerhouse Indicator. I wonder why Amazon is still staying away and when they indeed do come back will they follow the US model of charging duties upfront before shipping? I hope not

Just the revenge theme that’s similar. Otherwise it’s a far less stylised and a lot bleaker than anything PCW has ever done. A very distinctly Japanese thriller in that sense.

A US-based relative made noises about coming to India in June, so I just made the leap, and ordered a few discs to be sent to their place. Hope the trip doesn't get cancelled or I will weep bitterly. I already have a big pile with UK based friends whose India 2020 plans got completely scuttled by Covid, and now the Brexit situation may force them to emigrate elsewhere :gulp:
1917 is my first 4K purchase, and as such I don't have any timeline on when I will make that transition. But it was only 2$ more than the regular blu (which the pack includes). The Cremator is a brilliantly funny and macabre story of an undertaker who takes his job a little too personally. It's IMO an interesting companion piece to The Conformist. I have never met a James Stewart western I didn't like and Destry Rides Again has a good rep as an entertainer. War of the Worlds - 50's Technicolor alien invasion movie gorgeously restored, sign me up already. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() And while it's a hefty step up over the Amazon price, I ordered this vintage horror piece off Wow-HD because I didn't want to put all my discs in one basket. ![]() |

Another 88 Film Jackie Chan release and a cult Japanese classic from Arrow to note today.
New Fist of Fury: Keeping up with the 88 Films Jackie Chan collection while I still wait to add the last two pieces of the puzzle that I'm missing. The first film to star Jackie Chan in the lead that was widely released and his first of many collabs with Lo Wei is pretty much all I know about this one. This is supposed to be a sequel to Lo Wei's hit Fist of Fury with Bruce Lee, so it'll be interesting to see how this one turns out and could possibly make for a good double bill with the Lee film once I do receive my Criterion order. Versus: An absolutely bonkers, balls-to-the-wall Japanese action film featuring zombies, yakuza and the great Tak Sakaguchi in his debut. This Arrow Video release features both the original cut as well as the 2004 Ultimate Versus cut, which includes new footage shot in '04 to fully realise director Ryuhei Kitamura's vision. I've seen this once before but I'm not 100% sure which version it was that I saw, so it'll be good to see both of them eventually. ![]() ![]() Last edited by thisgenius; 01-05-2021 at 08:35 AM. |

Satoshi Kon's Millennium Actress is coming to a lovely limited edition 4K+BD set and while the usual price is around £45, the publisher All The Anime have it for £25 for one day today. This film is a blind buy for me but it comes with a good repute and I've loved every Kon film that I've seen so this was an easy decision.

Bungee Jumping of their Own is great. Went to places I’d never think it would go to. Took me by surprise. Happy End is also superb, but don’t let the title fool you.
Please do let me know what you think of Suddenly Seventeen when you do end up watching it. I’ve put it in my cart a few times but never pulled the trigger yet... |

Ordered for these on Zavvi. This is only my 2nd order there ever, and the first I'm having shipped direct to India, so I'm keeping fingers crossed they arrive safely.
The Elephant Man has been on my wishlist for a long time, and the new restoration makes it a sweeter deal. Ladykillers is a blind buy, but Alec Guinness as a bad guy in an Ealing comedy sounds like a good bet. ![]() ![]() |

The Young Master: Preordered this badboy yesterday. I really enjoyed it when I saw it late last year. You'd think that the lion dance fight in the beginning would be worth the price of admission itself, but the action sequences keep getting more innovative and more elaborate as the film goes along. It is also oddly refreshing to see Jackie getting his ass handed to him for ten straight minutes in the climax. One of the finer martial arts film, but it could have maybe done with some more Yuen Biao. This release comes with three different cuts and I have no idea which one I saw, so it'll be interesting to see them all eventually and see what the differences are. Other than that, the release is stacked with a number fo special features and goodies in the form of a detailed 80-pages booklet, 6 lobby cards and a foldout poster.
