The English Patient won 9 academy awards and is highly renown for being a phenomenal film. Hardly a film that gets dismissed. If you want to talk about poor box office, then just say so.

Movies that I think are underrated:

Wendy & Lucy - Criminally underseen indepedent film with an absolutely amazing, achingly real performance by Michelle Williams. I'm probably like 1 of 3 people that has actually seen this movie, lol.
Zodiac - David Fincher's finest achievement and nobody thinks so....
Sunshine - Weak third act but the first two acts of the film are brilliant, borderline masterful sci-fi cinema.
Watchmen - It was the best possible screen adaptation of it that we could have gotten. It deserves more respect than it has gotten.
Grindhouse - An awesome experience by two great directors. It's a shame that nobody saw it.
The King of Comedy - one of both De Niro's and Scorsese's most underlooked achievements.

Some of the films he listed, only fit into the box office discussion, as it pertains to this thread, which is why I asked for clarification. Simple.

Movies that people might have never seen, like for example Steven Spielberg movies... Everyone always be talking about how great ET, Jurassic Park, Indiana Jones is. "Empire of the Sun" is below the radar that most people left out.

I love Empire of the Sun and I feel that it's so Underrated that many people haven't watch this and they should.

I agree with all you lists. Haven't seen Wendy & Lucy yet, I love Michelle Williams tho.

Empire of the Sun is a great period film. Sometimes people skip movies based on subject matter or how flooded a genre' is. It's hard to tell how well watched a movie is once it hits cable. This film, I feel, has been given a decent amount of attention. It was never meant to be a high grossing film, so the dedication to the integrity of the film is more of a slow burn; which discourages the vast majority of the movie going audience from choosing it in theaters. I really enjoyed this film.

I think Zodiac gets plenty of love, its my second favorite Fincher film and is well respected here on this forum.

Wendy and Lucy I have seen more talk of this film in the last week here on this forum than in the past 2 years combined. I have started sending e-mails to Oscliscope asking for a blu release. I love this film. It deserves to be a Criterion.

Watchmen gets my vote. I'd go as far as to say it's my second favorite Superhero Comic Book Adaptation (behind Spider-Man 2).

Speaking from personal bias (given my sig) but 'd also say The Truman Show as well.

I really enjoyed The Way Back. I bought the blu with knowing very little, and I was really impressed with this film. From he cinematography to the acting. I wonder how close this story was to he actual events?
