According to IMDB, The Hobbit and Prometheus only got 2K DIs.

Skyfall did get a 4K DI, but it's a 2.8K camera. I don't know if they did a 4K DI so they could use that extra resolution or if they upconverted it.

Whether it’s shot ‘native RED’ or not is not really of technical consequence in regards to qualifying for eligibility for home distribution. In essence, all a motion picture needs technically in order to make it onto REDRAY is a DSM (Digital Source Master). It doesn’t really matter which digital camera, or even film camera, the original images were captured with.

You see, for instance, you could *potentially* get some classic films on REDRAY if the studios/content owners would make them available to RED’s distribution partner…ODEMAX.

REDRAY’s *potential* future movie offerings are not limited to the 42MB wavelet-based editing Redcode codec (.R3D), but rather to their proprietary REDRAY distribution codec (.RED< which is what I think they’ve named it)

Think of it this way….Blu-ray currently supports the following video codecs: MPEG-2, MPEG-4 AVC and VC-1…for your home movies. REDRAY supports the video codec .RED

The practical problem, or bottleneck, if you will, is that it appears ODEMAX has hit an impasse ... https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread...ax#post7215286

This also applies the other way around, e.g. just because The Amazing Spider-Man was primarily shot with a RED Epic camera, does in no way make it more likely to end up on REDRAY than does a Sony Pictures motion picture shot with a Sony F65.

Not so….at least not for the time being, i.e. no 4K finish was done.

If one has some experience regarding VFX post production, there was never really much of a chance for a 4K DI for the worldwide release of The Hobbit as summarily explained here…https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread...ll#post6848379

^ P.S.
For additional clarity, it never went through a 4K DI pipeline, period….be it even in 2D, no matter what the frame rate.

So, I see that the full specs for The Hobbit have finally been listed on imdb, as you’ve pointed out. Better late than never I guess.

‘Searching For Sugar Man’ also needs updating…http://www.imdb.com/title/tt2125608/...ef_=tt_dt_spec Especially since it is rather unique in that a few scenes were actually shot on an iPhone with an 8mm film ap., and after all, it did win a Best Picture Academy Award in its respective category.

Couldn't help think what would happen if red ray's service became available on the new Xbox. The forums would get very lively! (I know it would never happen, just a thought)

For the record, my loyalty is with play station

I looked at the RED forum this week and I get the impression that RED is distancing themselves from their chosen ‘red ray service’, i.e. ODEMAX. Not sure if that is a reflection of impotency on the part of their partner(ODEMAX), or a failed idea, in general, by RED for the ability to offer a viable commercial distribution platform for RED RAY, no matter whom they would have chosen to partner up with.

One thing is for sure....the atmosphere has changed from Hype to Silence by the RED team members.

My team these days, varies with who plays the more noble soccer and deserves to win the match. I’ve recorded the FA Cup match of note and will try to watch this coming week.

From a different venue, do you recognize this stadium from ground level? https://twitter.com/BertiKropac/stat...797120/photo/1

or, perhaps from above, as viewed through a consumer display device…https://twitter.com/BertiKropac/stat...307266/photo/1

I'd back you 100% as I am sure if another format was introduced for 4K then at this stage as our economy struggles to recover it would gain little or no support whatsoever. I am sure the Blu-ray forum are aware of this as they make the important decisions ahead of them. If at all possible add it to Blu-ray.

I would have to assume that you can fit 4K on some sort of Blu ray disk as Sony said the PS4 will have Blu ray drive and support 4K but only for video and not for games.

“Fitting” 4K on some sort of Blu-ray disc is not a problem. More importantly, is the 'will' to do it, on the part of the BDA.

I thought you or Tob et.al. could help me out with that as I really don’t know for sure. Someone sent me those pics with no description whatsoever as to the venue. One of the things on *my bucket list*, so to speak, was to someday visit all the greatest football stadiums in the world but, I think that will never happen. More practically, I’d settle for at least visiting all of the distinctive stadiums (whether they be old school or modern) in the U.K. as I already missed out seeing Wembley, back during its heyday (prior to 2002). I’ve been searching for a travel agency which would offer that sort of football package to tourists like me but, I haven’t found any when I’ve tried.

You should visit the stadium of light. Best ground in the world and that is in no way biased

I’ll keep it in mind….if the ‘tour’ is during the summertime. As I think it gets a wee bit cold up there, where you folks live. You see I’ve been spoiled, having lived so long in SoCal.
