Dear Gamers,

As you probably know, we’re wrapping up the development of Dying Light, our biggest and most ambitious project to date. We spent the last three years making sure that all the features of our game add up to create a truly next-gen experience.

Much of this “next-gen feel” is tightly connected to the technological side of Dying Light. For instance, up to 200,000 objects can be displayed in the game at once. Add to this our use of realistic, physics-based lighting technology and you really start to push the next-gen systems to the limits. Features like these along with our core gameplay pillars – such as the player-empowering Natural Movement, threefold character development system, and vast open world – are all an inherent part of how Dying Light plays. However, combining all of these into one fluid experience is only possible on technologically advanced platforms.

Therefore, after thorough internal testing, we have come to the conclusion that we have no choice but to leave past-gen systems behind and release Dying Light exclusively on the next-gen consoles and PC. Put simply, older consoles just couldn’t run the game and stay true to the core vision of Dying Light at the same time.

To ensure you enjoy Dying Light as much as we would like you to, we chose to release it without any compromises on the three strongest systems available. Thanks to this, you’ll get the full and best experience regardless of the platform you play on.

We hope you understand the hard choice we’ve had to make. With the launch just around the corner, we can’t wait to show you Dying Light in the state it was meant to be. We’re looking forward to your reactions and impressions as we release the game in January 2015.

Nice to see this get canned for last gen systems. Games need to start being developed for the current gen systems only.

Even though I'm still playing on last gen it's nice to see this get the next gen treatment only. Gives me something to look forward to when I switch over.

Thought I'd bump this thread up since this comes out in three weeks. From the videos out there this looks pretty good. But so did Dead Island, a game that was much better in concept than execution, in my opinion.

I've got so many games in my backlog to finish (including another zombie action game, Dead Rising 3) that I probably won't play it on release, but Best Buy has a tempting deal. You get a minimum $20 for trading in select games (list here), plus a $10 off coupon for the game, PLUS $10 in reward certificates for pre-ordering.

So if you've got Gamer's Club, it's like getting the game for about $12.

If you're a new console gamer, I agree with the above completely. If you've been a XB gamer, then you already know your habits, which can answer that question. As an example, since 2007, I have purchased a single season pass, and I regret it. I can count on one hand the total number of games I have separately purchased extra content (not counting things like pinball). So, based on my past, I know to never purchase DLC of any kind until I have played the game, at which point I usually decide not to buy it.

Some guys are trophy collectors who like to 100% all of their games in the trophy rankings. For them, season passes make sense, since they know they will be playing the extra content.

I have these but the only ones that have added value are obviously the Telltale games. I think the rest should be free. DLC in general is a cash grab & I'm a sucker for it.

Alien: Isolation
Assassin’s Creed Unity
Call of Duty Advanced Warfare
The Crew
Destiny
DriveClub
Evil Within
Far Cry 4
Game of Thrones: A Telltale Game Series
Middle-Earth: Shadow of Mordor
Tales from the Borderlands

I actually like most DLC, as sometimes it can greatly improve a game's longevity, but I am wary of season passes. The only ones that I found useful were the ones for Bioshock Infinite and Borderlands 2, but both those games had their DLC plans charted out well in advance of release and included extra campaigns or a standalone story. Most season passes just seem to net you a few extra guns in multiplayer.

When both this and Dead Island 2 were announced I said to myself i'd pick DI2 over this game. I had alot of fun with the first two games, plus I don't have the money to buy everything.

However Dying Light does seem interesting.. plus my friend just got a PS4 and wants us to both get it to play Co-op. Bugs me because this game will 100% drop in price within a month of release.

I will still get DI2 but I didn't even realize that wasn't out until April in the UK so I guess Dying Light can scratch my zombie itch until then.

Their site is down. I went to Bestbuy during lunch and the guy said they were having problems.

Don't worry though. They dispatched the Geek Squad.

Earlier in the week we have heard that Dying Light was being delayed with no official statement. Now Techland has released an official statement on Facebook stating that physical copies of Dying Light have been delayed in Europe, Asia, the Middle East, Africa, and Australia. The delay hasn’t affected the global digital release for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC as it will still be 27 January 2015.
