I just sent it back having it for 3 days from Gamefly and I'll be getting it so I can own it. Having said that I'm an MGS nut. The actual "story" part isn't too long but there's other "mission" content to do. The visuals are pretty damned slick. I can't wait to see the engine with more polish and locations in the full game.

One of the side missions involves rescuing a member of your army (providing air support). The character and the mission name are perfect. I had a good chuckle from that one.

I'm a huge MGS fan. I disliked the story part, but man, the gameplay is addictive, and there's a lot to do for such a small game! If you like to really play your games to unlock everything, there's a lot of content!

Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain E3 gameplay demo reveals new information

Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain is Konami’s focal point at this year’ E3, and selected press has been able to attend a lengthy gameplay demonstration showing off the new mechanics and the open world stealth. Several websites have published their impressions, providing some interesting new details.

From IGN:

• The game is described as ‘gorgeous’ and ‘stunning’.
• Music swells when nearing a dangerous area.
• Aside from humans you can use Fulton Recovery to recruit crates, vehicles and even sheep to be used for your base. You can also go to the base at any point to customize it and walk around in it.
• You can spar with your soldiers to increase their level.
• Snake can use his prosthetic arm to knock, and with it attract enemies, without the need of a wall.
• All the features that were in Peace Walker and were missing from Ground Zeroes are now back.
• You can use your support marker to call in your team and scope out the area before entering yourself. They can bring back intel on enemy positions.
• The silly humor is also back in this game.
• IGN concludes by saying that based on the gameplay, TPP is ‘undoubtedly a highlight at this year’s E3′.

From TechnoBuffalo:

• The environment is gorgeous and hostile at the same time.
• Players can truly explore how they like, but ‘it’s stealth at all times’.
• Mother Base can be attacked, and the player has to know his way around his customized base in order to defend it.

From Gamespot:

• The base where Miller is being held is Soviet-controlled.
• This part (Ocelot and Snake riding through Afghanistan) takes place ‘relatively soon’ after Snake awakes from his coma.
• In the scene, Ocelot gives Snake a canteen of water, but he has a hard time grabbing it because he’s still adjusting to his new prosthetic arm.
• Ocelot tells Snake he has three days to rescue Miller, or they’ll lose their chance to get revenge against the Mother Base attackers.
• The first thing Snake needs to do is gather intel on Miller’s location, but after that the player is free to ‘tackle the remaining Soviet bases however he sees fit’.
• Ocelot returns to Mother Base to help Snake over the radio.
• “Your horse will defecate. That’s a feature.” As explained by the producer.
• There’s a new catch to the Fulton Recovery system: there is now a success rate that the recovery will be a success, indicated by a percentage. Typically this is around 80%.
• Snake can also enter a vehicle or container and Fulton it, if he wants to make a quick escape.
• Another feature of the cardboard box is Snake being able to escape from the side, leaving the box behind as a decoy.
• How the ‘hand knocking’ works: Snake spins his hand at the wrist, which results in clicks and sparks.
• While in a container, if a soldier approaches Snake can pop out and drag him inside.
• The e-cigar (used to speed up time) emits holographic smoke.
• You can now set multiple markers.
• Snake can scan information with his iDroid (in this case about Miller’s location) and send it to Mother Base.

• The site praises the detailed environments and draw distance that ‘would make any game on the market curl up in fear’.
• The sandstorm changed the way the game played dramatically, with Snake and enemies unable to see each other, forcing the player to slow down and be more observant.
• The site notes that ‘if any word can describe The Phantom Pain so far, it’s realism’.

• Snake can use his prosthetic arm to ‘neutralize foes with speed and force’.
• When Snake arrives at the base, the soldiers there salute him, and his presence raises their abilities.

• Assistance from Mother Base (such as Fulton Recovery and supply drops) costs money, but you can pick up stuff like raw diamonds and raw materials that contribute to your currency.

• “They sort of give you context for why they’re in that desert [Snake and Ocelot], and why they’re together, and it turns out the thing that you’re doing, your mission, is very compelling, and I feel like they spoiled something pretty big for me (which I won’t do here).”
• What struck him is how big it felt: the scenery seemed endless.
• Mother Base is ‘presumably where Outer Heaven starts’.
• They’re not just bringing stuff back like they’re usually doing in sequels: ‘every single thing in Metal Gear is getting expanded upon in some way’. The cardboard box is an example of this.

At this year’s E3, Sony announced that Rockstar’s latest game, Grand Theft Auto V, was coming to the PlayStation 4 (and the Xbox One, PC). This news has made famed game creator Hideo Kojima sad, but not for the reason you might think.

No, Kojima isn’t sad due to a last-gen game is once again getting a PS4 port; but rather, it’s because the trailer was so impressive, he feels his game, Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain, might not live up in comparison. Kojima also explains how GTAV’s open-world is different from what he’s aiming for in MGSV.

"It’s a bit different because Rockstar is going in a very different direction to what I’m trying to create. When we say we’re an open-world game it makes it sound like it’s trying to be the same as what those guys are creating. But this is very different – I’m trying to do a free infiltration game, so me being happy or depressed is a little bit unrelated. What Rockstar has created and the world they have created is super impressive, and actually when I saw the PS4 version a few days ago I got depressed again. And this is not game design-related it’s just me. The quality that they showed in the PS4 trailer was really impressive."

Seeing as the two games are almost on completely different genres, I think Kojima has nothing to worry about. And it’s not like The Phantom Pain looks bad or anything, too. Make sure to check back tomorrow, as the 30-minute E3 demo for MGSV: The Phantom Pain will be released.

Dan Dawkins as usual puts together an excellent 40min video going over a lot of details and conspiracies from the lateset MGS trailer.

I think that it's highly likely that Eli is indeed Liquid Snake. Like Dan says if this game does indeed lead up to Snakes infiltration on Outer Heaven in 1995 then chances are we will get to see Solid Snake in this game too.

The most interesting theory is that Big Boss is actually Skull Face, and that the tag line Two Phantoms were born, refers to Skull Face and the masked man in the first Phantom Pain trailer. These two people are just split personalities inside Big Boss mind. And we know that in years to come Big Boss would return to lead FOXHOUND and send Solid Snake to rescue Gray Fox from Outer Heaven and defeated it's leader who was Big Boss. Kind of points towards Big Boss having a good side and a bad side at the same time.

Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain is a stunning presentation. The trailer is full of symbolism and philosophy that we come to expect from Mr. Kojima. Although cleverly disguising the story and therefore making the trailer enticing, Mr. Kojima makes sure to include enough visuals to make us comfortable that we are in for a new Metal Gear experience. For me, the sight of the Diamond Dogs and Snake putting the ashes on his face with multiple urns make me believe that a lot of history is going to be dealt with. If one listens carefully to the amazing song, Nuclear by Mike Oldfield, it is fantastic story telling that gives us enough of a window to know we are about to embark on another emotional masterpiece by Mr. Kojima. Kiefer Sutherland as the voice of Snake is just fantastic while raising the drama, and makes us long to play the game.

Avi's comments aren't really surprising at all, considering he was the one that suggested Sutherland to Kojima in the 1st place. Of course he's going to pimp the game hard.

But, I'm completely convinced that Kojima

[Show spoiler]will actually be a character in TPP. His likeness was obviously rendered for the GZ side OP (Intel OP Rescue), and Kaz states "He's part of the intel team--(Kojima was obtainable in PW as an intel member in Mother Base)--To say he's a critical VIP would be a massive understatement".

Also during the hospital scene, Kojima explained that he was the 3rd person in that room (Kaz,Snake,& Kojima) closest to the camera. This was during the interview with Geoff Keighly. Kaz even asks the doctors, "what about him?" referencing Kojima.

In my highschool years this would have been a wet dream for me, I could have spent hours and hours non stop replaying the same mission trying out every possible rout I could take but now that I'm living in the real world with a job and a partner I'm not sure I'll be able to dig in to this as much as my heart really wants to. What I'd give to be a kid again

I hear you. I am married with 1 kid and another one on the way. I still love video games but seldom find the time to play them like I want to. I will probably get this game but I'll be amazed if I ever finish it.
