US Office VS Uk Office - Blu-ray Forum

I know both shows have been out for a while now, but with the US show officially ending a couple of months ago. I was wondering which version of the office do you guys prefer? Also which characters you prefer.

David Brent vs Michael Scott
Tim vs Jim
Dawn vs Pam
Dwight vs Gareth
Ryan Howard vs Ricky Howard

I am going to start and even though it's a close call I will say I prefer the UK version overall. It felt more like a real documentary that the US version and I personally enjoy the awkward situation humor that was more prevalent in the UK version. There are things I like about the US version more though, and I think the first 5 seasons of that show was great, but after that I thought the humor became really sitcomy. They lost the sense of awkwardness that the first 3 seasons did so well and went for more off the wall humor and the characters themselves became a bit unrealistic. The last 2 seasons were just unwatchable for me, but when the show was at its peek it did rival the UK version imo. As for the characters themselves, their probably the reason I enjoyed the US version more is some ways.

David Brent vs Michael Scott
This one I am going to go with Michael. Even though David proably made the show work better as a whole (since the premise was people having to work for a horrible boss.) He came off a bit to mean for my taste and didn't really redeem himself until the last 5 minutes of the series. So even though they did to a bit of a retcon with Michael's character by the end of the series and made him a bit to likeable. I personally preferred him to David overall as he did seem to legitimately care about people.
Tim vs Jim
This one is a close call, but I am going to go with Jim on this one. If for no other reason than we got to see him grow and develop more than Tim.
Dawn vs Pam
This is another one I will give to the US. Again mainly because we got to see Pam grow more. She also felt a bit less like a tease that Dawn did.
Dwight vs Gareth
I would say I prefer Gareth. He genuinely seemed more annoying than Dwight, and I can see why having this guy next to you all day would drive you crazy.
Ryan Howard vs Ricky Howard
This one I will give to Ricky. Neither character got to much to do in the first couple of seasons, but the simple fact that Ricky called David a sad little man makes him my favorite. Also hated the direction they took Ryan's character in the later seasons.

By far the US Office. It really is not fair either since the office had almost 200 more episodes lol. And even if you cut off all the episodes after Steve left there is still like 150 episodes to judge on vs the UK like what, 20?

True, but in some ways that almost helps the UK version. It didn't have as many episode that dragged things out. So when we got to the conclusion it felt more real. I still say the UK version stuck with the documentary feel far more than the US version, and it makes sense that the camera crew would only follow them for a short time.

I found the U.S. one to be better because of the entire supporting cast. They had a lot more time to work with a lot more characters.

I even love the later seasons.

Yup. The Tim and Dawn storyline alone trumps anything the US version ever did.

I like both, but I do prefer the US one... David Brent comes off kind of sleazy to me, Michael just comes off as a bafoon. I also prefer Jim and Pam to Tim and Dawn, they didn't really have the same build up where you wanted them together as much as PB and J did IMO.

The entire supporting cast in the US one also makes it a lot better, and were some of the best parts of the show where the UK one pretty much focuses on the main cast.

I've watched the U.K. series over 20 times, one of the best shows ever. I can't stand the US version, though I've only seen 5 or 6 episodes, and that was painful enough.

US office clearly is better.

UK office is under-developed. It could've been a brilliant show. But clearly missed out.

Highly overrated aspect of gloomy relationship just like the english weather. It was good but nothing outstanding.

Give me Dwight and Mozz relationship from US Office any given day.

The original UK version is much wittier but far more realistic which can also be a little bit depressing I think. It's so damn accurate to office life it can spoil it

I think the UK version could have done one more series and explored a few more things. That's one reason I like the US version, they explored lots more ideas that worked well.

The US version is much sillier and at times OTT, but more enjoyable at times. The problem here is the series went on too long and it went downhill.

Overall I gave it to the UK version as it was the original concept and the comedy is far more subtle. Really, you have to be British to get and notice all the comedy. You have to have experienced British life and work.

My 10 cents anyway.

I watched The Office - U.K. Edition a couple of weeks ago and I liked it, but I feel I might have missed one too many jokes because the humor was too dry for me. Then again, comedy is subjective, after all.

The IT Guy was hands down my favorite character and so was the U.K. "Dwight", the U.K. "Jim" was just obnoxiously annoying who tried to pass as a cool guy.

Love this scene!

Anyway, my vote goes to the U.S. Edition, but after Steve Carell leaves the show it just goes downhill to nearly become unwatchable.
