Sony Plans To Launch Gaikai PS3 Library in 2014

Sony will use the cloud technology to provide PS3 games to stream to PS4 and Vita.

In a roundtable interview at Tokyo Game Show today, Sony Worldwide Studios president Shuhei Yoshida said that Sony plans to launch Gaikai cloud services with a library of PS3 games in North America next year.

A selection of games will be available at launch, which will expand over time - Yoshida mentioned that users will want a good selection of titles to browse through from the beginning, like with Netflix, so the plan is to launch with a decent number of available games. They will be available to play through PS4, PS Vita and the recently-announced Vita TV.

Sony will launch this service in 2014 in North America. Asked about plans for European territories, Yoshida had no specific timeframe to share, but it is likely to be after the North American launch.

we always knew it was going to do that though. I wish they had been more specific with details bc I cant imagine it will be free. If its like Netflix, will there be one flat monthly free which allows access to the entire library or will there be a game by game charge

Ya. I agree. There is still far too many unknown variables at this stage to know whether this will be a good thing or not.

so has there been any rumor/news of when the new Vita will come to NA? Dissapointing that we are heading into the holiday season and its nowhere in sight.

I don't think we will hear anything until a while after the PS4 launch.

I hope we get the Vita TV here ni NA when Japan gets the PS4.
And I would understand if they did that so they do not end up competing against themselves for the holiday shopping.

I would definitely pay $500 for a PS4 + vita TV bundle than an XBone and Kinect

That's when or around I expect it. I think they gave it to Japan first since we get PS4 first.

Yes, I read that review. Sounds like an improvement in every way except the switch to LCD. One thing they didn't mention which I think might be only noticeable on the black one is that it looks like they switched to to plastic like when the revision of original PSP came out it changed to that cheaper feeling plastic.

The screen doesn't sound like a deal breaker to me as I don't think Im as hung up about it as most seem to be. The better battery life and micro-USB kind of trump that for me. What will be tempting is this BF. I expect to see a $150 or lower Vita bundle which unfortunately wont be this new one. Will have to fight the urge to impulse buy.

Yeah they didn't say it's bad or anything just not as good as the OLED.

Soon, you’ll be able to play Senran Kagura: Shinovi Versus on a TV. Producer Kenichiro Takaki tweeted an update that adds support for PlayStation Vita TV has finished a check and will be released shortly.

Senran Kagura: Shinovi Versus came out in Japan back in February. The game hasn’t been announced in the West yet, but XSEED brought Senran Kagura Burst overseas.

Hope we can use our current ps3 saves on the ps4. I really don't wanna lose my Borderlands 2 modded saves.

The PS4 has already been released in Japan and still no announcements of the Vita TV arriving in NA

Amazon has announced today their FireTV. The Vita TV should be able to do everything the Amazon box can do +more. The only reason I can think of why they have not yet announced anything is maybe they don't want to disrupt the current momemtum the PS4 has. They probably aren't planning anything as long as the PS4 is still continuing to sell out.

But the way I see it, the Vita TV targets a different consumer anyway and should not eat into the sales of the PS4. I would think that people may even buy it as a bundle at MSRP if marketed as a PS4 extender.

Im thinking this is just going to be one of those cool Japan devices that never makes it way west. There have been plenty of PS products that never come to NA and until there's an official announcement, it would appear people were wrong in assuming this would be released worldwide when to the best of my knowledge Sony has never said that
