Guerilla Games is working on a new IP, rather than a Killzone sequel, as its follow-up to November's Killzone: Shadow Fall. The Sony-owned studio won't specify what the title, is, but specifically wants to separate itself from tradition.

"As a studio we do want to branch out," lead designer Eric Boltjes told Eurogamer, "and we have started work on a new IP, something completely different to Killzone. I don't want to say anything about it right now, but as a studio we do want to keep it fresh."

Designers whose work is completed on Shadow Fall, the development on which is nearly complete, recently moved on to the new project. "The really tricky part about that phase is not trying to do too much," Boltjes explained. "You have a room full of people and they all have a different idea of what they want to change about the game. They can't do everything, especially if you only have two-and-a-half years to build it."

Good for them. Sony has them push out Killzone as its a recognizable franchise and can help sell systems and with that out of the way they have the freedom to explore something new which must feel welcomed after doing Killzone for so long. I approve of this and like the idea of Sony's studios doing new things

Glad they are working on a new IP. I just wonder if it will be a FPS or if they will completely branch out and try a different gameplay style.

I'm trying to think of a developer that made two completely different FPS'. When a bunch of staff are shared between projects, and then the genre too it's difficult to flavour them completely different.

I have a strong feeling it will be another FPS. With Resistance possibly on the shelf and Killzone looking to join it after Shadowfall, Sony will be without a first party FPS. I think GG will be creating a new FPS franchise for the PS4 but with a different feel from KZ

Killzone: Shadow Fall developer Guerilla Games has revealed that their next PS4 game has already been in development for a long time, meaning it could be coming sooner than expected.

Killzone: Shadow Fall developer Guerilla Games has revealed that its next IP has already been in development for over two years, meaning we could be getting a new Guerilla PS4 game sooner than expected.

In a video showing off the Guerilla offices, spotted by Dualshockers, executive producer Angie Smets said that Guerilla have been working on their new IP for two and a half years.

It had been assumed that, given that Guerilla only recently shipped Killzone: Shadow Fall, their next PS4 game would be some way down the line.

News that a significant amount of development time has already gone into Guerilla's new IP means that we may not have to wait as long as expected.

There have been rumours that Guerilla's next PS4 game will be an open-world RPG as well as suggestions that a reveal of their next game is not far off.

"Insider" Shinobi of Neogaf fame, a few months ago, revealed on twitter that the new GG IP was working on was indeed a RPG in a lush environment, with a rather unique setting and Dinosaur Robots fighting with a redhead girl who would be the main protagonist.

Whether these are true or not, leaks like these are inevitable, I think. Sony has a lot of studios working on games and has seemingly locked away all their devs in the heart of Fort Knox. I don't think that wall can stand forever (and wonder if it even should).

As for Horizon (if it's real), combining 4 of my favorite things (dinosaurs, robots, vikings and redheads) is never a bad idea.

Now a mod can merge for all I care frankly, but if we start merging into any thread that starts with "Studio X is working on 'something' ", that'll be a nice collection of "something" forum pretty soon frankly.

- Might end up a 2016 release (original planning was E3 2015 reveal - now the cat's out of the bag)
- Will have a MP component (co-op) but definitely SP friendly
- The game has been in development for over 3 years now

There's a dedicated single player. Gorgeous landscapes, snowy tundras, jungles, vast savannahs, open world comparable to the Witcher. Cool weapons, villages and towns to encounter, "tribal" societies...gun b gud.

Killzone 2 IMO is the only good game they have made.

Love the single player mention and damn that is gorgeous art work. Would love for it to be a 2015 game. Or early 2016 is it does get pushed back.
