With the current news of TV Reboots like Murder She Wrote and Charmed, and the fact that I just recently saw a thread about Miami Vice coming to Blu, I figured I'd ask...get the creative juices flowing. So here it is...reply to the poll and start a convo.

If they rebot it the storyline will really have to be the good dark and gritty type. The cops will have to dress what are in today in the world of dress down friday, serious monday and for undercover work. The score and music will have be the kind that makes one think of the good and bad times of life all at once. Examples would the kind of music and scores used in Infernal Affairs movies, Heat, Face/Off, Casino, Rain Man, Collateral and Maximum Risk. Also put in the charaters's personal life as the subplots. That is needed, not like short live show Robbery Homicide Division. Which did not do that and just on the characters's work.
Without any of those, I don't think the rebot would last long. |

NEVER
The original "classic" had hottest white guy, hottest black guy and hottest latino guy in one show! Having Michael Mann as creative was only an icing on the cake. how do you replicate that.......ever? |

I would give it a chance. If it's rubbish then I wouldn't continue watching but I wouldn't automatically not watch it. I thought the Lethal Weapon series would be terrible but that surprised me due mainly to Clayne Crawford's performance. It sucks now they fired him.

I am somewhat receptive to the idea of reboots / remakes when it comes to films, but for television series? I'm a hardliner when it comes to television: I will not watch any series reboots that do not feature the original cast* in some capacity (*one-time cameo appearances won't cut it). Same for any television series based on films. So, that means yes to X-Files (but only if Gillian Anderson returns for season 12), but an absolute no to MacGyver, Charmed or Lethal Weapon.
No Don Johnson, no Philip Michael Thomas, no sale. |

The original Miami Vice was such a product of its time it's unimaginable it could be faithfully replicated (hell, Michael Mann's film from over a decade ago didn't even try). It was entirely fitting the show ended its run with the closing of the 80's decade. That being said, I'd likely tune in out of curiosity as I loved the show when it first ran...though it's doubtful I'd stick with it. There is a bit of a conundrum here: the surface of the show is what sold it and what most people best remember about it; the music, fashions (pastel and otherwise) and Miami-noir visual aesthetic. All of that is now so outdated you can't bring it back. What you can bring back is the cynicism, dirty deeds in lovely surroundings, a romantic loner hero or anti-hero with a certain moral code in an immoral world. Those elements are essentially timeless.
I read well over a year ago that Vin Diesel was personally trying to get a reboot done for network television and I've not heard anything since...though the possibility of a reboot coming to fruition must remain a real possibility, even if done by someone else. |

Miami today still has plenty of drugs and dealers, the cars are much better today then back then and the fake kit cars used on the show, and thank god 80's fashion is dead and buried. The music though you got me there, yes will be difficult to top, in the air tonight on the pilot episode is still one of the greatest scenes in all of TV history imo. |
