Beyond Home Entertainment are releasing The Fairly Odd Parents: Season 1-5 (Collector's Set) on DVD in Australia on 1st September 2016.
It will be great to have the majority of the series finally available on pressed DVD discs. |

So has anyone ever said why Doug and Rugrats are still only available as DVD-Rs from Amazon and not official pressed discs anywhere else?
It's no big deal since Amazon has pretty fair pricing (compared to when they first started making these, I'm still ashamed of how much money I dropped lol), I'm more curious than anything. |

Well, they're SD Blu-ray discs. Meaning, they work on a Blu-ray player only, but everything's in SD. It would appear 1 Blu-ray can hold 52 SD episodes.
As for R&S, it's the equivalent to the German DVD set, meaning missing scenes with audio are in German only. I still hope for the day Paramount or Shout! releases a proper uncut set. |

I can only speak for AYAOTD, but it looks decent enough for being a low budget Canadian kids show. I'm guessing it was shot on video and they're just recycling some old broadcast masters. The show itself doesn't hold up nearly as well into adulthood, though I still enjoy some of the better episodes like The Tale of the Thirteenth Floor.

I can speak for the Doug set. The set is a good value if you want all the Nickelodeon episodes, but there are some downsides (mostly nitpicks). The episodes show their age and don't seem to have been remastered, but they look fine as-is. Each one begins with a seven-second bumper of the current Nickelodeon logo, and there are pauses between the ends of episodes and credits, briefly interrupting the music flow, and some season four episodes open abruptly (the B segments), with fade-ins snipped, occasionally cutting off the first lines of dialogue ("Dear Journal", vs "--al"). It's not nearly as bad as I might be making it out to be, but these pauses do distract a bit.

But that doesn't make the set not worth owning. |

I just bought The Fairly Odd Parents: Season 1-5 (Collector's Set) released on DVD in Australia, and I was disappointed to notice each episode has been split into two segments, with the majority missing the opening and ending sequences. I might be in the minority, but I hate watching cartoons without the opening sequences in particular.
Were the MOD releases of season 1 - 5 of The Fairly Odd Parents in the USA like this too? |

I really wish that Shout! would release a complete series set for Rugrats. It would be cheaper than buying all of the seasons on DVD-R.

My younger brother recently bought all five seasons of Are You Afraid of the Dark? from Amazon. He was worried because the second disc of season 4 had some scratches, so we watched it first. Aside from a slight hiccup during one episode's title card, the rest of the disc played fine. He watched the show more than I did at the time but it's been fun to revisit it and see some of the episodes that I remembered. Some of the child actors' performances are a little iffy but otherwise it hasn't dated all that bad in my opinion and is still a fun show.
