Is there a closed back equivalent of the 598s??

In a word no ...................... The major strengths of the HD-598's ( spaciousness, soundstage, smooth frequency response, etc.) are due to it's open back design. You'll find that most audiophile headphones use this approach for sonic nirvana ......... That's not to say there aren't great sounding closed cans to be found .

If you like the sound of Sennheiser's ...... I would suggest looking at some of their closed models ...........

The Momentum and Urbanite come to mind ......

Then there's the HD-4xx series .......

But as they say ....... You'll have to audition them for yourself

Love my HD598's. I have the Black version and running them off a Fostex HP-A4 headamp/DAC. Very nice combo.

If you want an excellent 'closed' back can, if you can find a used Denon AHD200 (Made by Fostex) it would be worth picking one up....plenty of bass but very detailed and mostly neutral in sound. Excellent frequency range response with sub-bass you can feel and sounds great unamped right into a tablet or iPod. Plus if you ever get the itch to mod or upgrade for better audio quality, there's Lawton Audio which specializes in modding the Fostex cans:

http://www.lawtonaudio.com/index.html

I'm actually just ordered the Fostex x Massdrop TH-X00 Purpleheart phones instead of upgrading my Denon AHD2000's.... will be much less expensive for probably the same end result I could have gotten with the AHD2000's...

Very nice set of cans, and where else can you get a set of planars for $300 unless they are on sale like the HE-400i's were around Christmas time ???? Only reason I don't own these is because of that sale.

They sound good, but I'd take the Sennheiser HD598s over them all day long. Which can be purchased easily in that price range.

Amazon has the Sennheiser HD 600 bundled with a $150 gift card for $399, makes the cans $250, great deal if you spend a lot of time there buying stuff like me. http://www.amazon.com/dp/B0199APD94/ref=twister_B0158VN3E0?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
I just got these cans used at a good deal, but damn....

Ya beat me to it, looks interesting for $100. Just know they are dynamic drivers, not planars, which would be insane for that price.

FOSTEX T50 Mark 3's can be had for ~ $150... not an easy headphone to drive though.

I'm looking into getting some wireless headphones for my bedroom I'm currently looking at the sennheiser rs120. I don't want any wires to show is it safe for me to run the rca wires that are attached to it in wall or will that be a fire hazard
