I left that genre behind several years ago, because my thoughts and emotions kept changing for the worse. When I did watch them, my fave was the original "Halloween". It was all about suspense and shock, instead of gore and explicit sex like most of the sequels and other franchises.

I was tempted to buy the 35th anniversary Blu-Ray for the original Carpenter film, until I remembered "Halloween" was what got me hooked on horror in the first place.

I'm not a fan of Halloween. Thought it was limp and uninteresting and not scary. It does have some admirable qualities like the score. It's leagues better than the rip-off Friday the 13th.

I don't share your aversion to blood and gore. Still, if you ever have a yearning to see a good modern horror film I recommend The Orphanage. It's R rated, but has little graphic violence. It's about suspense, mood, and mystery.

Yes it is, and I designed it myself. The history of it goes back about ten years, to a now-defunct website called DVD Cover Art. One of the members created custom avatars, which inspired me to do the same thing.

Interestingly, I've never read the Shadow pulps, or listened to the radio shows, but I love the concept of the character. The idea that someone could be so familiar with darkness from their own past, and then be forced to fight crime as atonement...its very engaging to me. Alec Baldwin did a great job, especially with that psychotic laugh. I love that first scene on the bridge, when he rescues Roy Tam from the mob.

Given the choice between extreme heat or cold (both of which occur in Texas), I'll take the latter any day. My skin doesn't tan for anything; it just burns and freckles a lot. I also tend to sweat really badly in the summers, and my eyes are light-sensitive. I usually stay indoors anyway, but during summer, its a deliberate effort.

My ideal type of weather would be a place where it stays around 60 degrees Fahrenheit all year, with fairly-regular rain and no severe thunderstorms. I'd still love to have a real white Christmas at least once, though...

I agree. I'm not a fan of extreme temperatures, but I'll take the cold over the heat any day. Too bad I live in Utah.

My mother has been in the hospital for almost two weeks; I haven't discussed it here, because I wasn't sure how the higher-ups would respond. As of now, she's been diagnosed with a Stage 4 cancer called "poorly differentiated carcinoma". Its mostly in her lungs, and the doctors have already said chemotherapy would make it worse. She's had two biopsies, and is now on a ventilator. They want to remove it, but her breathing hasn't been stable enough to do it safely.

Many of you know that I am a Christian, and in return, I realize several of you are not. I do not apologize for my faith, but this is neither the time nor place for a debate. All I'm asking is that for those who do believe, please pray for my mother; her name is Valerie. I'm scared of losing her, and I know the rest of my family is, too. For those willing to pray, please ask that God's will be done, and that He helps my Mom, my family, and myself to trust Him more than our own hearts or minds.

Thank you for your time; I will provide an update on her condition when I can.
