The game, and action Role Playing Game, was announced as "in development" a while ago (title reveal in 2012), and is based in the "Cyberpunk" tabletop RPG universe.

It has been announced for PC/ PS4/ XB1, and is described like this:

Players are thrown into the dark future of the year 2077 and into a world where advanced technologies have become both the salvation and the curse of humanity. A multi-threaded, nonlinear story designed for mature players takes place in the sprawling metropolis of Night City and its surroundings. Along the way, visit places well known from Cyberpunk 2020, including a combat zone completely taken over by gangs, the legendary Afterlife joint and the nostalgic Forlorn Hope.

Freedom of action and diversity in gameplay is delivered thanks to the sandbox nature of the game and mechanics inspired by the Cyberpunk pen-and-paper system, fine tuned to meet the requirements of a modern RPG. Players experience the world through their own unique characters chosen from different classes -- be they blood-thirsty mercenaries or cunning hackers – that they will equip with vast selection of cybernetic implants and deadly weapons. Gameplay will pump adrenaline through players' veins and be consistent with the celebrated Cyberpunk spirit -- rebellion, style, edge, uncertainty. And of course, a cyberpunk reality cannot be deprived of murderous steel -- guns, rifles, implants, dozens of gadgets and other varied pieces of equipment needed to survive on the streets of Night City.

It was just announced that due to the development of Witcher 3, the game is still a -long- way off.

The CEO added that CD Projekt will use the profit from the release to mainly finance new projects, including two Witcher add-ons and a completely new game entitled Cyberpunk 2077.

"We hope and we are certain that Cyberpunk has even bigger commercial potential. It is too early to talk about it, though. This year, and the next one will be the years of the Witcher," Kicinski said.

The April 2015 trailer gives me a strong vibe of BubbleGum Crisis (and even more specifically of A.D. Police), which isn't a bad thing at all

One of my most anticipated games ever, and now perhaps even more with seeing how great Witcher 3 is.

Classy handling by CD Projekt Red Imo. Also, if it does leak, people will be happy to look over the files and be more interested even if they're saying it's an early stage abandoned concept art etc. that's been stolen. It still will show hints of where they're looking to head.

Leaks can sometimes be good, but also possibly negative, as some gamers these days write off a game based on early leaked game play footage, saying it's garbage before even waiting for the final game or playing it.

For Cyberpunk 2077, I'm imagining a giant open world, Futuristic city as the setting. Hopefully it's all open world as with Witcher 3.

• Game will seemingly be at E3, with what they’re showing at E3 being announced just before. Said they didn’t want to confirm yet.
• The campaign is singleplayer and very expansive, and will be the first thing they show.
• It sounds like the multiplayer might be added post launch, but they don’t want to talk about it yet. Everything is on the table in regards to it, including Battle Royale modes. This makes sense as they did a lot of the multiplayer staff hiring more recently, so they might need more time to finish that.
• To be clear about the above, an investor asked if the multiplayer would be a Battle Royale mode, and they said anything and everything was on the table, so you shouldn’t necessarily assume it’s a Battle Royale mode. They’re probably still deciding what all the components are, but judging by their job postings, half the multiplayer design team was just hired (which seems to be led by Krakow, who did the DLC for The Witcher 3).
• Edit: I listened to the comment about multiplayer on the video, and I think he might have meant that more in the "First and foremost we're making an epic singleplayer game like The Witcher 3." sense as opposed to "We're releasing the game with only a singleplayer mode at launch.", with the "further extensions" being a reference to offerings beyond what The Witcher 3 had, not literal multiplayer expansion packs or updates. It's possible they intend to launch without multiplayer, but I wanted to make the ambiguity here clear so people aren't surprised if multiplayer is in at launch.
• The game has a character creator and you can still pick your class, despite rumors. They reiterated later that the game does not have a predefined character.
• The studio can’t officially comment on next-gen as it's not announced, but assured investors their game will scale to it.
• No microtransactions for the singleplayer mode.
• No current plans for a Switch version.

Awesome to finally be hearing some news about it. Since they mentioned they'll scale up to the PS5, I'm guessing this won't be ready till 2020? But hopefully no later than 2077.

The target was June 2019 at least for the PS4/Xbox One version. Could change between now and then though.

I hope a remastered version releases for PS5 etc. too if it's such a late stage game. Seems like a game that will have some serious visual feast and great gameplay as well as story if it's anything like The Witcher 3 and its DLCs. Although I do need to play the DLCs for that great game yet.

Actually I'll be shocked if this isn't part of MS' E3 presentation. They've always had a close relationship with CD Projekt Red and they need impressive IP's to show during their presentation. I could also see MS getting the marketing rights for this, along with DLC timed exclusivity.

I'd like to see some money thrown behind this one. I still have Blood and Wine to finish up but the rest of what I played of W3 has been aces. To build off of that and be in the Cyberpunk universe? My most anticipated game for sure. While it won't happen I would love for this game to give GTA5 a run for its money in sales.

I'm guessing this won't compare to GTA unless it includes vehicles. There's a chance of that since there are horses to ride in Witcher 3.
