The only thing is, the official blurb for the game says

Building on its legacy as the most realistic and accessible driving simulator, GT Sport has partnered with the FIA to push the boundaries of racing games. In addition to everything you'd expect from a GT, the team at Polyphony and the FIA are introducing an online racing series that will be recognized alongside real world motor racing by the FIA.

If it's everything I'd expect from a GT game then it should be a full on entry. No to mention at the start they had "from 7 to 77" that has to have some double meaning. Too much of a coincidence that this would be the 7th game.

Maybe they are ending the numbered entries and every game from here on in will just be an expanded version of Sport?

Seems like a lot of people are falling on the side of this being the new GT rather than a "GT7".


Also seem to be looking to greatly improve the AI and add in specific rule sets etc

Polyphony wants to improve the situational awareness of AI drivers, and their reactions to the ever-changing conditions of the tracks, giving there a more human-like behavior.
Implementing specific regulations for racing series like GT, rally and NASCAR is mentioned, also for events and “mission races.”
Polyphony plans to implement a tool to render audio based on 3D space infomation.
The studio plans to implement a companion app on mobile that can interact with the series on PlayStation via the network.
The studio is collaborating with production sites around the world, and needs to develop communication tools to make the process smoother.
The use of GPU compute for physics is mentioned.

Gran Turismo Sport is not Gran Turismo 7, More Substantial than Prologue Titles

Following hot on the heels of everything we currently know about the upcoming Gran Turismo Sport, there is another fact that can be added to that list, one that answers a question many of you have been asking since yesterday’s announcement: Gran Turismo Sport is not Gran Turismo 7.

Sony Computer Entertainment Europe’s president and CEO Jim Ryan confirmed this when speaking with Eurogamer, saying GT7 wasn’t being announced at this stage. However, there’s insistence that GT Sport will be more substantial than the more traditional ‘Prologue’ titles in the franchise that have prefaced the full-featured releases.

“Fair to say [series director Kazunori Yamauchi] has been making these games for some considerable time now. I think it’s reasonable to assume that something else might come down the road. Is it a Prologue? No, I think it’ll be more than that.

The old days, when the games were offline, the experience was defined by what’s on the disc. You had a distinction between a Prologue and a full GT, it was very stark. When the game becomes more of an online connected experience, that distinction blurs. This will be much more than a Prologue type experience.”

There are still many questions surrounding the new title and with the confirmation that GT Sport is not the seventh entry in the franchise, but a standalone effort, one of the more frequent questions can be laid to rest.

Watching the trailer, you could see it was a GT game even without the logo and I'm not sure whether that's a good thing or not!

I didn't bother with GT6 as, despite putting in stupid amounts of my life into the game, I never unlocked many of the decent cars or earned enough to buy them.

I really hope this GT-S moves away from cr@p cars no one cars about and is designed so that even an average player can get to the top cars without too much pain.

GT-S will need to do something a bit special to lure me away from Driveclub though.

Yeah but up 581% compared to what? There's no numbers. It could have been sitting at 100 pre-orders and shot up to 681 (or whatever 581% more of 100 is). There's no frame of reference so it's meaningless. (and I just noticed the first post on that article said the same thing).

Isn't it based on it's previous standing in the chart? It was 1,301 but shot up to 191st in the chart.

There 8 items in the top 15 all related to the PSVR haha.

Yeah I get that, but how many units? Without knowing that number something can jump 2000 spots and still not be impressive if the actual quantity is only 5 units.

Well the 581% increase was in sales ranking I don't think it was meant to indicate sales in units.

I'm not even sure you could extrapolate that info by comparing it to anything else on the list like another game since we don't know how many individual copies Amazon sold just how many a game sold all together.

After over six months of silence, GT Sport is ready for its first gameplay showing. As you’d expect of a company that has announced a title at a racetrack (GT6), and taken over an entire town for a release party (GT6 again), Polyphony is pulling out all the stops, showcasing the PS4 title in downtown London, at the Copper Box Arena, a former Olympic site.

The two day event begins a week from today on May 19. Kicking off with a livestream of a brand new GT Sport trailer, this private portion of the event will include gameplay opportunities for the members of the press in attendance, as well as the beginning of the first GT Sport eSport event. GTPlanet founder Jordan will be present, even taking on commentary duties. The evening will look something like this:

• 6.45pm BST – 7.00pm BST: Run down of the day’s events, news and a showcase of the brand new GT SPORT trailer
• 7.00pm BST – 8.30pm BST: Nations Cup Pre-Season Test and the Manufacturer Fan Cup Pre-Season Test of the FIA Gran Turismo Championships:
• The Manufacturer Fan Cup Pre-Season Test
• The Nations Cup Pre-Season Test
• 8.30pm BST – 9.00pm BST: Trophy ceremonies (1st, 2nd and 3rd place for each cup)

As cool as the moon was, I'd prefer they spend their time on the sound effects this gen. I want engines and collisions to sound like they should.

Fewer but more detailed cars (no crappy "standard" cars)
Better engine sounds
better A.I.
Dynamic weather AND time of day.

greater customization with create and share liveries

GT has had dynamic weather since 5. Do you mean better dynamic weather?

Also has had day/night cycle and damage since 5. Damage comes in two forms: cosmetic (which was only decent on a few models) and mechanical which was never implemented in the main part of the game.
