I just got this used without a remote to use with my Harmony remote, for $60 it is pretty good so far, loads almost any blu in 10 seconds, which is a bit faster than a PS4, and it is quieter too. The only downside I see is the interface seems to be stuck at lower resolution, but if that helps the navigation go faster, then it is better that way. Also like that this can play Amazon Instant Video in 24hz which makes it better than Amazon own Fire TV stuff, even if the interface is clunkier. Last edited by pedromvu; 12-09-2015 at 07:17 PM. |

I've used decrypters (generally to enable region & other features, NOT piracy) & software hacks for years, but I just got a professionally hardware-modded 3D player (LG BP550 from 220 Electronics) as those are more likely to remain stable over the years than software hacks or decrypters, are less of a grey area than decrypters, and are now cheaper than before as the industry awaits UHDBD. Solid hardware mods are unquestionably the most sound way to go region-free, unless you can afford to import a player from each of the other two BD regions (and those may have electrical issues that don't affect modded players). |

Can anyone give me settings for this 6500 player that will help with Amazon streaming pixelating? TV is Samsung 60" 4K Ultra HD 3d TV, Yamaha 5.1 sound system. Netflix streams perfectly as do the other apps, but Amazon pixelates. Thank you.

I just got my first region-free player through 220-Electronics. While I was tempted to get the whole thing knocked out now (the 4K upscaling and whatnot), I would not have a 4K TV to try it out on in the lifetime I have this player. So I opted to get a regular 3D-capable unit (The BDP-S5500) to get me started. What I am hoping for is that eventually, the S5500 or later gets firmware updates to read x265 media off of USB.

Tempted as I was for a BDP-S6500 when I got it, my 5500 has been kicking butt. I don't need the 4K right now, but I was tempted...the difference in price is what killed it for me.
What I really want is for Sony to roll out new firmware updates that can get x265 playback rolling out on their latest units and up to one or two gen's back. Of course, I only have a couple of shows on x265 format on my TV drive that I have to watch on my PC...so it isn't so bad. And I hope to god they eventually figure out how to get BD-J's to save their damned place with a player hibernating or shutting off with the disc in the machine... |

I have been wondering if I would see a difference in PQ when using this player's upscaler vs my TV's upscaler?
Currently my set up is BD through Playstation and then my Vizio P series upscales it. Would there be a noticeable difference between the upscalers? |

I've modded 2 different players with Rattlebyte mods. I can't say nothing bad about them.

First of all, as OP said, make sure that you are connected top internet before even starting the initial setup.
The On/Off display on the device looks like a tiny green dot, and also when you press Off it takes quite a few seconds before the unit actually shuts off. Performance-wise, there is nothing negative to say about this player, but the streaming capabilities are slightly lower than its Samsung counterpart (I own both). Fantastic product if your main interest is in bluray discs and 3D |
