Default Dragon Quest XI

My favourite RPG of all time could well be DQ VIII and finally we're getting another instalment on the Playstation platform. It's been a long wait but I'm sure it'll be worth it!

Now all we need is for Level 5 to give us something decent.

It looks gorgeous running on Unreal Engine 4:

Interesting that it's also getting a 3DS release too.

Yeah, I love that 2D bottom screen with a 3D representation on the top screen, I might have to buy both.

Looks to be a Ni No Kuni situation, where the story and characters are similar, but the games themselves are developped separately.

Also, a glimmer of hope for the PS4 version, Verendus (an insider on Gaf with links to Sony) has predicted this and said that all DQs for PS4 would get western localisations.

I hope he's right.

The Japanese publisher stated it understandably doesn’t have “a concrete plan at the moment”, but it’ll “consider it as [it has] done in the past for other Dragon Quest titles.

I hope it comes out here... Square Enix likes to tease their fans with Dragon Quest games that never leave the land of Japan.

I know I am more excited for this than I am the next Final Fantasy game. Really hopes it comes out here on the ps4 or the NX.

It would be a punch in our face, when they wouldnt release this title outside of Japan.

I agree - I'm also more excited about the new Dragon Quest. Final Fantasy isnt the game it was back in the day. Maybe FF 15 can lift the curse. We'll see.

Well the good news is the we could always import this one if needed. Thankfully this one will not have the region lock issues of the resent remakes/new DQ games that have been published on Nintendo's devices.

The fact that were in a global economy and theres region locks at all anywhere is total BS

Day 1 purchase for me, no questions asked. I'll admit I'm tempted to get both so I can play the SNES-style version, but if it's the same game I'll probably pass on that. Already have Heroes on preorder!

So when I get a PS4, it looks like I am going to have three games for it. Dragon Quest heroes, Dragon Quest 10, and Dragon Quest 11! I have always loved these games!

The official English-language Twitter account for the Dragon Quest game franchise responded on Wednesday to fans asking about whether the Dragon Quest XI: Sugisarishi Toki wo Motomete (Dragon Quest XI: In Search of Departed Time) game will be coming to the West. The account said that the team does not have "a concrete plan" at the moment, but the team will consider it "as we've done in the past for other DQ games."

Hi everyone! I know a lot of people have been asking if Dragon Quest XI is coming to the West but sadly we don't have a concrete plan atm
— Dragon Quest Heroes (@DragonQuest) July 29, 2015

I've been told the team will consider bringing DQ XI to the West as we've done in the past for other DQ games but I don't know anything else
— Dragon Quest Heroes (@DragonQuest) July 29, 2015

Square Enix formally announced this game for the PlayStation 4 and Nintendo 3DS on Tuesday. The company aims to release the game in Japan on the franchise's 30th anniversary, which is next year. It also aims to release the game for Nintendo's upcoming "NX" platform but has not confirmed that yet.

Default Dragon Quest XI announced for PS4

Do these games follow on as sequels or are they like final fantasy games were its just the game number that changes? Will this be a new setting and story?

Basically, will I have had to have played the previous game(s) to understand what's happening in this? (If it ever makes it to western shores)

EDIT: Why hasn't Nintendo ever made a Pokemon game like this? Surely it'd sell like hot cakes and make them a ton of money, no?
