It suffers from the Switch’s lighting, but most of the PS4 textures appear to have been restored.

Not sure that’s the case

looks like an upscaled port, textures look different (worse) than the original ps4 release

It’s worth it solely on the fact that it has the version of the soundtrack that doesn’t make you want to puncture your eardrums lol.

And, not that it’s really needed for turn-based games, 60fps if you have a Pro.

Is the soundtrack "fix" really worth it? I'm such a graphics ***** (though not a PC gamer and will never be one - can't be bothered).

Meh. May be I pick up "S" down the road when it's one sale for $20. Can't justify more than that for those fixes, especially when it's accompanied by a visual downgrade.

I cancelled my order, will buy it cheap down the line

the S version is obviously the winner (more content, better soundtrack, QoL improvements, 60fps) but having worse graphics than what we got years ago is a big minus

It’s a shame that the definitive version might end up being the inevitable fan made mod on pc

From the demo, maybe the only thing that was markedly improved was the overworld theme, but frankly I think the real problem there is that it’s simply not the greatest piece of music in the world and you hear it far too much. Everything else musically I’d say is either just on par with the original or I prefer the original version. The synthesized score was never the problem it was made out to be...people taking it too seriously, not getting into the spirit of the thing. The Nautica theme in the original version is exactly what that piece of music should sound like, really nothing to complain about.

The graphics are a downgrade but it looks just fine. I played through the original three times and played the demo after the most recent play and could see differences but didn’t really feel it was substantially different (the most notable downgrade seemed to be in the out of focus backgrounds in close-ups during cut scenes.)

I didn’t care for some of the interface and slight control changes just for a feature I don’t care for at all (taking screen shots) but that’s down to over familiarity with the original.

I’m turning the new version down for now, but any new players shouldn’t be too worried about the new version. It’s great either way.

If they patched the graphical areas everybody is currently and rightfully imo moaning about, then it would knock the outcry on the head. It's stupid to use a downgraded game from a visual PoV.

I haven't played a DQ game since Journey of the Cursed King and really heard great things about this but not had the time to try and play it yet.
