Does this turn into an actual game at some point??? I've got covid and was needing the kind of distraction I only get from active gaming the other night. But all I did was walk around picking up junk for 15 minutes and watching about 45 minutes of movie. The graphics are fantastic, but assuming this is all backstory, it's getting a little bit ridiculous that I've watched this much movie and still have no clue what the story is going to be about. And I can only hope the gameplay itself is about more than picking up stuff and trying to balance it on your back. People criticize Last of Us 2 for having too many non-playable parts. I always enjoy the story elements with ND, but this was getting on my last nerve the other night. If it's got much more, I'm just going to scrap it and pick up Valhalla.

Things pickup after episode 3 (but it is a huge slog to get through episode 3) but the core gameplay mechanic will always be making deliveries. You will get some upgrades that make carrying easier, like floating carts and vehicles. You'll get better weapons for fighting off mules and BTs. The story will get more interesting. But yeah I had the same issue as you (and gave up on the game for months before coming back). I just don't like the deliveries thing and while it may get a little better, that never changes.

Yeah, this game requires lots of patience, as mentioned in previous posts. You’re basically going to walk pretty much the entire game. And even when you get a vehicle, they are not always reliable. Whenever it gets exciting is when you’re dealing with boss fights.

It’s still one of the best games of 2019 though.

I skip over most of the dialog when it's gameplay based. It's like they explain technical things for 10 minutes and it doesn't advance the story at all. After the 10th time of that, I just started skipping most of it. I'll watch the CGI type cutscenes.

But yeah, Death Stranding is a movie game. 80% movie, 20% gameplay.

Thanks everybody. Valhalla should arrive today. I'll give DS another go when I'm feeling more like a movie.

I hope you're feeling better soon JurassicBD. That stinks. Enjoy Valhalla.

Really? there are a lot of cutscenes in the first hours, but I’d say it’s 30% of the games, not 80%

That ratio belongs to MGS4

MGSV had way more gameplay at this point than Death Stranding does, now 16+ hours in, but with little motivation to keep playing after unlocking the second stage. The BTs just aren't fun to play against. They drag Sam (Norman Reedus) through the mud and then he fights a whale almost each time. I feel burnt out avoiding the BTs.

MGS4, I believe it.

Would love for an enhanced version of this capable of running 60fps. Can't possibly handle the 30fps on PS5.
