Saw this listing. I have never had any experience with this particular website though, and I am not even convinced that this listing is a genuine one. Any opinions/ideas?

I don't know about Sholay but this site also lists other questionable blu-rays like Uri: The Surgical Strike, Stree, Whole Nine Yards, which are not known to have been released anywhere in the world. None of these are clarified as in-stock or pre-order items. The other issue is that they require a big 1499/- or more order for COD. I guess by putting out fake item they tempt you to either add other items to make the minimum limit for COD or you pay in advance by card and then take their time to refund, during which they get interest on your money.

They are fake sellers if u ordred any disc they will send the pirated 25gb disc upscaled one too

Saw the Amazon prime version which was a remastered version. Video was OK but they uploaded mono audio I spite having remastered in atmos. Pity.

ok. great news but its soundtrack is upgraded to Dolby Atmos. Amazon Prime has it only in DD 2.0. what a travesty.

I know it's old news how awful the current HD master of Sholay is, but... it truly is SO terrible, that this bears repeating: this "remastered" version (from the recent 3D re-release and now featured on Amazon Prime) might just be the most offensive treatment to a classic film ever inflicted. Worse than the colourisation of It's a Wonderful Life or George Lucas' repeated re-editing of the original Star Wars trilogy.

Debating the audio quality (Atmos vs 2.0) is irrelevant considering virtually nothing from the film's REAL soundtrack can be found in the audio presented, seeing as how all of the sound effects and music have been deleted and replaced with completely new effects and music. Only the original dialogue and song vocals remain - suffocated under this new and completely bogus soundtrack.

The image quality is shambolic - colours have been crudely altered to form a garish, saturated mess that in no way resembles any known film stock from any era, much less the original Eastmancolor from 1975. Detail is non-existent, buried under an ocean of amateurish digital noise reduction. Aspect ratio? Well, the original shooting ratio of 1.37:1 was too much to hope for since almost every version of the film released has been the cropped widescreen version.

This can in no way be considered a restoration - it's a desecration.

Agree with your other points, but Sholay was not necessarily intended only for 1.37:1. It was also composed for 65mm blow-up prints.

But yeah, if someone could yank the original film elements out of the Sippy's hands and give it a more respectful restoration, I'd be thankful.

Ramesh Sippy claims that the movie was also shot with a 70MM camera. Now of course, if Dwarka Divecha himself were to come down from the skies and say otherwise, it'd be a different matter. But until then, I, for one, am inclined to take the word of the director over anyone else.

I had read that the film was shot twice, on 35mm and 70mm. Not sure how authentic these sources are though:

so you have the 3D blu-ray and does it give 2D option? Or you only watched the Amazon version?

As has been discussed umpteen number of times in the past, the theatrical versions in 1975 were released in both 1.33:1 (not 1.37:1) as well as 2.2:1 ARs.

There is no blu-ray release of Sholay 3D/2D. He must be referring to streaming HD.

I've seen the Amazon version, a TV showing, an airline version and trailer for the 3D version - all appeared to be from the same "restoration".

Checked out the Prime streaming version, first time seeing it in HD. Not very impressive. Sad that this movie hasn't gotten the treatment it deserves.
