Here's a few updates on our upcoming 2016 TV Shootout.

- Joel Silver of Imaging Science Foundation, ISF will be our moderator and Keynote speaker

- Jeff Murray and Matt Murray of AVPROSTORE are our primary presenters

- Several VIP special guests (well known respected TV reviewers) will also present

- We'll have the World's first full 18Gbps HDMI 2.0a/HDCP2.2 8x8 matrix switch to distribute all of our sources to every TV

- Our 4K HDR BD will be fed from Panasonic's new 4K BD player, model DMP-UB900

- We'll have new high-end meters that can measure down to OLED MLL

- We'll have Konica/Minolta's reference CS-2000 Spectraradiometer and the brand new LS-150 Luminance meter

Of course, most of you know Joel Silver and for those who don't know the Murrays here's a snip of who they are. Jeff and Matt run the top tier ISF tech support team for many thousands of ISF calibrators worldwide - and Jay serves and supports the Infocomm Contrast Standards committee and the CTA Home Theater Standards committee.

Jeff is the CEO of AVPro Global Holdings - a company that manufacturers connectivity and testing products for systems integrators.

Jeff is certified by THX, ISF Level I/II, ISF Commercial, and DSEG. Jeff served in the Military for 20 years as the Electronics maintenance Chief.

Considering the new TVs, and the new 4K HDR TV System and our very distinguished technical presenters our 2016 TV Shootout is the most important event of our well respected 13 consecutive years of producing our high-end TV evaluation event.

^^ At the beautiful Altman Building, 135 West 18th Street, NYC.

We have the entire lower level of the conference center exclusively for our TV Shootout, with a very cool private 2nd room for private meetings.

Hope to see you and many of our Blu-ray.com friends!

Yes, I was able to procure Vizio's R65-B2. I do not expect it to be HDR10, but won't know for sure until tomorrow.

Robert, congrats on getting through another nail-biter (). Is this the 12th or 13th anniversary of the VE shootout? In the PR for the event, it was said the first one was conducted in 2004, which would make this year 12. Can you clarify that for me?

It's our 12th consecutive year. My mistake on writing up the original press release. Here's our latest press release with the final results of the attendees voting.

My personal Kuro that made a cameo appearance is the KRP-500M.

We had a blast hosting this year's TV evaluation event!

as expected the LG OLED annihilated the competition. It's not without faults but there isn't an LCD LED tv out there that comes close. I wish the Kuro would have been eligible for voting just to see how the attendees felt it held up 7 years after it's release....

Nice job Robert!!!

Thanks Robert for the event and all the work you put into it. It was very entertaining and the presentations on HDR and WCG were very informative.

A wide spread in results between the top 3 finishers, the exact opposite of last year when they were all close!

It is disappointing that OLED displays and LCD displays still have to use frame interpolation in order to perform close to the motion quality of a plasma display. The ideal flat panel display should operate like a DLP projector or plasma display which uses a natural repeating frame rate method without the need for frame interpolation.

Some high-end DLP projectors operate at native 24fps without any motion or flicker problems. Plasma displays and all other flat panel displays need to use 72Hz and higher multiplies of 24fps in order to be flicker free.

Some interesting quotes from the Sound and Vision article

“Although all the contenders were Ultra HDTVs, a last-generation 1080p Pioneer Kuro plasma was also on display as a reference. All the sets were calibrated for both day and night viewing.”

“Not surprisingly, none of the sets, save the old plasma, performed particularly well with moving-image torture clips in the absence of their frame interpolation circuits being flipped on.”

Robert, can you explain why the kuro looks like it has the color turned down and washed out?

http://www.highdefdigest.com/news/sh...-ce-week/33016

Is that really how it looked in person or are the HDR TV's washing it out on our SDR monitors? Like i get that HDR and WCG have more saturated colors, but BT709 wouldn't look that dull in comparison. I actually recently watched Kingsman and i can't say i agee with those pictures. It looked as colorful as the other TV's.

By the way, when are you going to put this up on Youtube?

EDIT- Seems you were using a HDR P3 video source? Why not use bluray for the kuro?

Day two, June 23rd we had two full TV Shootout sessions and we did use the Kingsman FHD BD disc on the Kuro and the 4K HDR disc on the other 4 HDR TVs.

On day one, which was a brief presentation to the media we did distribute the 4K BD disc to all 5 TVs as the new 18gb matrix switch can output 4K and 2K at the same time, however, David Mackenzie stopped in and suggested we demo this comparison with the 1080p disc for the Kuro and the 4K HDR disc for the other TV, which we did on both full voting sessions for June 23rd.

The Kuro looked better with the FHD disc, but still with far less color fidelity and saturation and of course, lower peak luminance. The demo was very compelling in favor of the new TV System with the 4 more modern 4K, HDR, WCG, 10-bit panels and EOTF displays.

I'm considering a professional video editing service for our Youtube.com/hdtvshootout page. So it's likely a few week at least.
