Default New Live Action Peter Pan Film Coming From Disney

Quote:
EXCLUSIVE: Disney will make its own live-action Peter Pan film, and has set David Lowery to direct a script that he will write with Toby Halbrooks. They teamed to write and Lowery directed Pete’s Dragon, a new version of Disney’s 1977 live action/animated musical. It will be the second effort in the family film space for Lowery, who was best known for writing and directing the edgy indie Ain’t Them Bodies Saints.

Disney might as well reclaim the J.M. Barrie work about the boy who would not grown up; it was the focus of its successful 1953 animated film. Many other studios have made their own versions on the big and small screen, including Steven Spielberg’s star-studded Hook to most recently the Joe Wright-directed Pan, which didn’t work out well for Warner Bros. Lowery is separately working towards directing Robert Redford in The Old Man And The Gun, which Lowery adapted from the David Grann Vanity Fair article about an aging thief who in the 1980s knocked off a lot of banks in throwback style and became a folk hero outlaw.

I had a feeling they would make another one, but would have thought with last year's bomb, that they would have just shelved their own.

Really, the 1953 movie is all the Peter Pan I need.

If it's anything like The Jungle Book, bring it on. Disney's Peter Pan is one of my favorite of their animated movies, I'd love to see a live-action version that (again, like The Jungle Book) honors the animated classic and is its own, new thing.

The Jungle Book is amazing, Cinderella was amazing... as long as this Peter Pan is closer to these two, it should be a treat.

Why? Aren't we all Peter Pan'd-out already? Zero interest here and I'm pretty sure, zero interest from most kids too....

Let's face it, with all of their successful live-action updates of their beloved animated classics, this was only a matter of time. We've already got Beauty and the Beast coming next year, so this one is a no-brainer. Sign me up to take another trip to Neverland!

It's Neverland!!! You just sound like a grumpy adult. There will never be such a thing as too much Pan.

I stand corrected. I am so sorry. I knew they had to be making it for someone and there you are!

I want a live action Aladdin. Visually that would be very cool I think

Edit: apparently a prequel is planned for that

It'll be interesting to see how it'll work without Robin Williams as the Genie. I don't see how they can pull it off.

Pan was terrible, but I'll keep an open mind for this.

Didn't Pan just get... panned?

Disney knows what it's doing. I've been steering clear of these live-action reimaginings, I think Jungle Book will be the first I see because it actually looks like more than just a cash-grab.

I quite liked the live-action version of Alice In Wonderland but live-action Disney Classics is definitely getting out of hand. They're even planning a live-action Cruella De Ville film now.

Haven't you seen this one?

It is very similar to the Disney animated movie. I don't see how it could be much better than this.

Thanks but no thanks. I'll stick with the animated film and Hook.

I love the 2003 film, but that one dives a bit more into the underlying tragedy of never growing up in a way that challenges viewers more than they expect.

I would expect a Disney live action film to just emphasize the fun and not attempt to consider such questions.

Some of them lend themselves to live-action remakes more than others. But since they already did a crappy one for 101 Dalmatians in the 90s, I dunno why they'd need another Cruella movie now...

The stupid thing is that she's the focus of her own movie. Cruella De Ville is a great character but I can't see how she could work as a protagonist in her own movie.
